18 New TV Shows We’re Excited to Watch This Fall
It’s the most wonderful time of year. At least that’s true if you’re a die-hard TV fan. It’s the start of the Fall TV season, and while plenty of returning favorites have us filling up our DVRs, there’s a ton of great new TV to be excited about too.
Beginning with the shows that premiere next week, here’s a look at some the new TV series we’re most excited to watch this Fall.
1. All Rise

Courthouse dramas remain popular for a reason. All Rise follows the chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of its judges, prosecutors, and public defenders, as they work with bailiffs, clerks, and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal process.
Included in the group is newly appointed Judge Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick), a highly regarded and impressive deputy district attorney who doesn’t intend to sit back on the bench in her new role, and immediately begins pushing the boundaries and challenging the expectations of what a judge can be.
All Rise premieres Monday, Sept. 23rd at 9/8c on CBS.
2. Prodigal Son

Prodigal Son is described as is a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone.
The intriguing new series follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a profiler who works with the NYPD to help solve crimes and stop killers, using his own personal knowledge of serial killers. Because Malcolm’s father was one himself — he’s a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon,” who still hopes he can find a way to bond with his son.
Watch our interview with Prodigal Son stars Lou Diamond Phillips and Halston Sage here.
Prodigal Son premieres Monday, September 23rd at 9/8c on FOX.
3. Bluff City Law

Bluff City Law follows Sydney Straight (Caitlin McGee), a brilliant lawyer who used to work at her father Elijah’s (Jimmy Smits) celebrated law firm until their difficult relationship got in the way.
After barely speaking to him for years, Sydney returns to her family after her mother passes away unexpectedly. Despite the resentment she has toward her father, she says yes when he asks to re-join his firm.
This is a legal drama with some heart to it, and it might just be the kind of comfort TV you’re looking for this fall. Read more about Bluff City Law and watch the trailer here.
Bluff City Law premieres Monday, September 23rd at 10/9c on NBC.
4. mixed-ish

MYKAL-MICHELLE HARRIS, ARICA HIMMEL, ETHAN WILLIAM CHILDRESS
The next spin-off of the hit ABC comedy black-ish, mixed-ish focuses on Rainbow Johnson as she recounts her experience growing up in a mixed-race family in the ‘80s, and the dilemmas they face to acclimate in the suburbs while staying true to themselves.
Bow’s parents move from a hippie commune to the suburbs to better provide for their family, which means new challenges for them and for their children. The show promises that those experiences will highlight the challenges of finding one’s own identity when the rest of the world can’t decide where you belong.
mixed-ish premieres Tuesday, September 24th at 9/8c on ABC.
5. Emergence

ALLISON TOLMAN, ALEXA SWINTON
ABC’s new thriller Emergence has an intriguing premise. It’s about a police chief who takes in a child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident, only to then be drawn into a conspiracy larger than she could have imagined, with the young child at the center of it all.
If you’re interested in genre thrillers and mysterious, this one is definitely going to be worth a watch.
Emergence premieres Tuesday, September 24th at 10/9c on ABC.
6. Stumptown

COBIE SMULDERS
Cobie Smulders stars in Stumptown, based on the graphic novel series of the same name. The show follows Dex Parious (Smulders), an army veteran with a complicated love life, gambling debt, and a brother to take care of in Portland, Oregon. She’s a great PI, but her unapologetic style doesn’t necessarily win everyone over.
If anything, Stumptown promises to be a fun ride. The series also stars Jake Johnson and Michael Ealy, and Camryn Manheim.
Stumptown premieres Wednesday, September 25th at 10/9c on ABC.
7. Perfect Harmony

Perfect Harmony is here to bring a little to your life. Perfect Harmony premieres Thursday, September 26th at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.
8. The Unicorn

Another new comedy to add to your DVR, The Unicorn is about a tight-knit group of best friends and family who help Wade (Walton Goggins) embrace his “new normal” in the wake of the loss of his wife one year ago.
When he steps back into the dating scene, he’s surprised to learn that he’s considered the perfect single guy — a “unicorn” — because he’s employed, attractive, and has a proven track record of commitment.
The Unicorn premieres Thursday, Sept. 26th at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
9. Sunnyside

Sunnyside is quite possibly the political comedy you need in your life right now. It follows Garrett Modi (Kal Penn), the youngest New York City Councilman ever, who lost his way as a political leader and got busted for public intoxication.
It was all caught on tape and ended his career, forcing him to move in with his sister and start over. Thankfully, he’s hired by a diverse group of hopefuls who dream of becoming American citizens and believe he can help, which gives him a new sense of purpose and a chance for redemption. Read more about Sunnyside here.

11. The Politician

Coming to Netflix, The Politician follows Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara who has known since age seven that he’s going to be President of the United States.
But first, he just needs to get elected Student Body President at his high school, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, all while outsmarting his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality. The new series, which comes from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, promises to offer a comedic and satirical glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.

If you’re a fan of superheroes, this one is a can’t miss. 13. Nancy Drew

Also on The CW this fall is another familiar name: Nancy Drew. The new series follows Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann), a brilliant teenage detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother’s untimely death derails Nancy’s college plans. Devastated by her mother’s passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college.
All that changes when Nancy finds herself a prime suspect in the murder of a socialite, along with a group of other teens who were present at the scene. Nancy and the others team up to clear their names, but things become even more complicated when a supernatural presence begins to haunt Nancy’s investigation.
Nancy Drew premieres Wednesday, October 9th at 9/8c on The CW.
14. Living With Yourself

This is one we’re particularly excited about. Paul Rudd stars as Miles, a man struggling with his life on the Netflix original series Living with Yourself. When he undergoes a novel spa treatment that promises to make him a better person, he finds he’s been replaced by a new and improved version of himself.
As he deals with the unintended consequences of his actions, Miles finds he must fight for his wife Kate (Aisling Bea), his career, and his very identity. It’s an existential comedy that asks the question: do we really want to be better?
Living with Yourself will be available for streaming October 16th on Netflix.
15. Modern Love

Amazon Prime Video is also offering a new show we’re excited about this Fall. Modern Love tells unique stories about the joys and tribulations of love, from an unlikely friendship and a lost love resurfaced to a marriage at its turning point.
