Preview — Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
Imagine if Hannibal Lecter had a son who liked to help the police find serial killers, and you’ve got the premise for FOX’s new crime drama, Prodigal Son.
On Prodigal Son Season 1 Episode 1 viewers meet Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal psychologist whose father, Martin “The Surgeon” Whitley (Michael Sheen), is a renowned doctor who earned his nickname not by saving lives but for taking them.
In addition to his father’s DNA, there’s a bit of a question mark regarding whether or not Malcolm also inherited his Martin’s homicidal tendencies. There are some red flags, like Malcolm going off the rails under the right circumstances. Dad seems to think his son is hiding his true talents under a bushel.
In addition to having an infamous serial killer for a father, Malcolm must contend with an overbearing mother, Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young), and his picture-perfect sister, Ainsley (Halston Sage), who doesn’t share her brother’s interest in the macabre.

Episode description: ENTER THE MIND OF A SERIAL KILLER — Malcolm Bright knows how killers think and how their minds work, because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly, was one of the most notorious serial killers, called “The Surgeon.” Alongside his longtime mentor, Gil Arryo, and detectives Dani Powell and JT Tarmel, he helps the NYPD solve crimes by profiling killers, while also dealing with a manipulative mother, Jessica Whitly, an annoyingly normal sister, Ainsley Whitly and a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son.
