Scrubs and Shifting Gears Renewed at ABC
Scrubs and Shifting Gears are set to return for more in ABC’s 2026/2027 programming season.
They join the other renewed series on the network: Abbott Elementary (Season 6), 9-1-1 (Season 10), 9-1-1: Nashville (Season 2), High Potential (Season 4), Grey’s Anatomy (Season 23), The Rookie (Season 9), and Will Trent (Season 5).
That leaves the Scott Speedman-led freshman drama series, RJ Decker, as the only scripted ABC series on the bubble.

Variety also reports that Do You Want Kids?, the comedy pilot co-created by Rachel Bloom and Dan Gregor, will not be moving forward at the network. Bloom was also set to star on the show with Rory Scovel.
On Do You Want Kids?, they would have “played a married couple who in one universe have a child and in another do not, with the show highlighting how that one decision impacts their lives.”
Despite it being the 11th season overall, the Scrubs revival will officially return for a second season. Meanwhile, the Tim Allen and Kat Dennings-led comedy will have a third season.
Deadline reports that no episode counts have been revealed, but the “word is that they would once again produce a limited number of episodes.”

DONALD FAISON, SARAH CHALKE, JUDY REYES
Scrubs‘s first season had nine episodes. Shifting Gears Season 2 had 13 episodes, up from the first season’s 10 episodes.
In March, ABC shared that the two-episode series premiere of Scrubs “delivered the best ABC comedy episode and top ABC series debut overall on streaming in over a year, based on views over five days on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+” since Shifting Gears Season 1 Episode 1, “Restoration,” in 2025.
The Scrubs revival returns to Sacred Heart and stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke from the original cast. Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley also guest star. Bill Lawrence of Doozer Productions created the original series.
He executive producer alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer of Doozer Productions. Braff, Faison, Chalke, and Randall Winston are also executive producers. Executive producer Aseem Batra is the showrunner.
20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, produces Scrubs.
Shifting Gears stars Allen, Dennings, Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis.
Allen is Matt, “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” and Dennings is Riley, “his estranged daughter,” who moves into his house with her kids.
Allen executive produces alongside Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily, and John Amodeo. Kat Dennings is a producer. Shifting Gears is produced by 20th Television.
