Grey’s Anatomy Renewed for Season 23 on ABC
It’s happening! Grey’s Anatomy will return for Season 23 on ABC.
While the season is expected in the network’s 2026/2027 programming slate, it’s unclear how many episodes it will contain.
Deadline reports that a renewal is likely to come with budget cuts, like fewer episodes. The last two seasons of Grey’s Anatomy have been 18-episode runs, a cut from the 22 and 24-episode orders of its earlier seasons.
Variety reports that Grey’s Anatomy was the most-streamed show on Disney+ and Hulu, while Nielsen recorded it in the No. 2 spot in the U.S. across all platforms last year.
This renewal comes ahead of Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 16, “Feel It Still,” airing on Thursday, April 2, at 10/9c. It also comes after the news about two long-time cast members exiting the series.
As previously reported, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who play Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman, respectively, are set to leave the long-running medical drama at the end of its current season. After debuting in 2005, McKidd joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 5, while Raver joined in Season 6.
That means that — heading into Season 23 as things stand — the only original main Grey’s Anatomy cast members who have been on the show since 2005 are Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 also stars Camilla Luddington, Caterina Scorsone, Jason George, Chris Carmack, Anthony Hill, Alexis Floyd, Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane, Niko Terho as Lucas Adams, and Trevor Jackson as Wes Bryant.
With this renewal, the medical drama joins Abbott Elementary (Season 6), 9-1-1 (Season 10), 9-1-1: Nashville (Season 2), and High Potential (Season 4).
The network has not announced decisions on Shifting Gears, Will Trent, The Rookie, Scrubs, or R.J. Decker.
