Abbott Elementary Renewed for Season 6 at ABC
Abbott Elementary returns from hiatus with some exciting news!
ABC renewed the award-winning comedy series for a sixth season, per Deadline. This announcement comes ahead of Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 14, “Aide,” airing on Wednesday, March 4, at 8:30/7:30c.
It’s another early renewal for the series that returned with its current season with Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 1, “Team Building,” in October 2025.
The network shared the news on X, where fans can call Barbara Howard’s (Sheryl Lee Ralph) phone number to hear her voicemail. During which Barbara says, “I am too busy celebrating the good news to come to the phone right now. In case you haven’t heard, Abbott Elementary will be back again for Season 6 on ABC!”
It also has a sweet nod to Barbara and Melissa’s friendship, as Barbara mentions running late for their nail appointment because she had to record the voicemail. The phone number even has a Philadelphia, PA area code!
Like the last three years, Abbott Elementary is the first renewal of a scripted series in ABC’s lineup for the 2026/2027 season.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that this renewal comes on the heels of the show’s impressive ratings on ABC, as well as Disney+ and Hulu. The outlet deems Abbott Elementary “the top comedy on TV this season among adults 18-49, based on seven days of multi-platform viewing.”

Notably, Abbott Elementary Season 6 will bring the show to a landmark 100 episodes.
Created by executive producer and star Quinta Brunson, the series also stars Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, and William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson.
Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein also executive produce the series.
Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, produce Abbott Elementary.
