14 New TV Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch This Fall
The Fall TV Season is upon us, and along with returning favorites, there’s a full slate of brand-new TV shows to look forward to.
Network television is bringing new medical dramas, procedurals, and comedies. Cable and streaming services are bringing international series as well as at least one familiar character. There are reboots and spinoffs galore, too.
Here’s a look at the new TV shows we’re looking forward to most this Fall.
1. High Potential (ABC, September 17)

KAITLIN OLSON
Kaitlin Olson makes her broadcast TV return in the ABC drama High Potential as Morgan, a single mother with an unexpected (and exceptional) knack for solving crimes. Her gifts lead her to partner with Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), a diligent and rule-following detective.
Naturally, chaos ensues. I’m all for a Kaitlin Olson-led series (RIP, The Mick), as she’s one of the most underrated comedic talents out there.
– Melody McCune
2. The Penguin (MAX, September 19)

Besides being a continuation of Matt Reeves’s The Batman, The Penguin provides Oswald Cobblepot’s unique perspective on things. It’s a crime drama following Cobblepot’s rise to power in the criminal underworld.
Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, and Rhenzy Feliz star in this intense and fiery follow-up series in Reeves’s “Bat-world.”
– Chris Gallardo
3. Rescue: HI-Surf (FOX, September 22)

The setting alone is enough to make Rescue: HI Surf intriguing. The new series coming to FOX follows the personal and professional lives of lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu, which is known to be the most dangerous stretch of coastline in the world. It stars Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Kekoa Kekumano, Alex Aiono, and Zoe Cipres.

4. Matlock (CBS, September 22)

Inspired by the classic series of the same name, Matlock stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, who is rejoining the workforce after many years at a prestigious law firm.
To have Kathy Bates headlining a court drama as her final hoorah before retirement is exciting. I’m not always a fan of reboots/reimaginings, but Matlock has a nostalgic impact on my life, so I’m looking forward to seeing how this version works out.
– Mads Misasi
5. Brilliant Minds (NBC, September 23)

Zachary Quinto returns to network TV with Brilliant Minds, a series inspired by the work of author and physician Oliver Sacks.
The series follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto) and his team of interns in what promises to be a unique medical drama. Brilliant Minds also stars Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, and Donna Murphy.

6. Murder in a Small Town (FOX, September 24)

Even though murder mysteries are nothing new, it’ll be exciting to see Rossif Sutherland take on the role of detective Karl Alberg.
Bringing a book series to the screen isn’t always an easy task, but hopefully, Murder in a Small Town will do L.R. Wright’s writing justice. Here’s to solving as many murders as possible!
– Lara Rosales
7. Doctor Odyssey (ABC, September 26)

JOSHUA JACKSON
While doctor and hospital procedure shows are a dime a dozen, Doctor Odyssey aims to stand out with Ryan Murphy’s unique tone. The show stars a small medical team working on a cruise ship, with the series dealing with unique challenges for how the doctors and staff can help a patient miles away from the shore.
The show promises to bring plenty of high-stakes drama mixed in with Murphy’s usual blend of comedy and seriousness. While Murphy’s name makes the series a must-watch, the show also features a stacked cast that includes Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson.
– Misael Duran
8. The Franchise (HBO, October 6)
The new series from Armando Iannucci, The Franchise, is a Veep-esque take on the behind-the-scenes world of superhero movies.
The satirical comedy will follow the cast and crew of a big-budget genre film (not like Marvel, but not…not like Marvel, if you get my drift) as it faces filming challenges, meddling upper-level executives, dysfunctional cast members, and the existential pressure of a larger cinematic universe. Aya Cash, Himesh Patel, and more star.
– Lacy Baugher
9. La Máquina (Hulu, October 9)

I’m excited to watch Hulu’s first original Spanish-language series La Máquina. The series checks the boxes of sports drama and crime drama with its story about an aging boxer’s attempt to win one last fight and his manager’s ties to the criminal underworld.
It stars former co-stars and long-time friends Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, making for a must-see reunion.
– Breeze Riley
10. NCIS Origins (CBS, October 14)

The popular CBS procedural NCIS has spawned multiple spin-offs set in cities ranging from Los Angeles and New Orleans to Sydney, Australia. But this Fall will finally see the franchise look back to its own past for the first time.
NCIS: Origins follows the story of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the original special agent we met in the very first episode of the NCIS mothership. Set in 1991, Origins is set during Gibbs’ early days at what was then known as the NIS in California as he finds his place under legendary NCIS agent Mike Franks (played by Kyle Schmid). Original Gibbs actor Mark Harmon provides the series’ narration.

11. Nemesis (Disney+, October 16)
Nemesis is the first Dutch scripted series from Disney+. Described as a chilling crime-thriller, the series follows public prosecutor Sylvia van Maele as she works to expose a vast web of financial criminals who will go to extreme lengths, even murder, to protect their wealth and privilege.
The series promises all the twists, turns, and intrigue that make this genre so addictive. Whether you are a fan of international TV or excited to dig into a tangled political thriller, Nemesis gives viewers a lot to be excited about.
– Sarah Fields
12. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (CBS, October 17)

This show is definitely one that fans of Young Sheldon can get excited about. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage follows the fan-favorite couple as they learn to deal with the different challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage, all while raising their child in Texas.
We got a small understanding of their relationship in Young Sheldon, but this series is guaranteed to give viewers a deeper understanding of their relationship, lots of laughs, and more heartfelt moments between this iconic couple.
– Gracie Lowes
13. Happy’s Place (NBC, October 18)

A sitcom where Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman are thrown together unexpectedly and forced to get along? As a longtime fan of the Reba sitcom, say no more; I’m sold and seated for this reunion!
I have been awaiting Reba’s triumphant return to TV for ages in the age of revivals. Now that it is finally happening, I’m eager to see these two women tear up their adorable diner setting with that familiar and kismet comedic chemistry. And if a few more familiar faces stop by to help them rekindle that entertaining family dynamic, I wouldn’t complain.
– Alicia Gilstorf
14. St. Denis Medical (NBC, November 10)

St. Denis Medical is about to fill a serious void in your TV line-up. Comforting workplace comedies aren’t in the same abundance as they were, and there hasn’t been a medical sitcom on TV since Scrubs ended in 2010. Paging St. Denis Medical!
This mockumentary is about an underfunded and understaffed Oregan hospital. The series, co-created and executive produced by showrunner Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer stars the very funny and talented Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi.
