Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 20 Review: Fight

Chicago P.D., Reviews

Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 20, “Fight,” deals with Upton’s feelings regarding Jay’s departure while her life is at risk and the team is trying to save her.

It seems to bring the story full circle that Torres (the man Jay brought into the squad) is the one who has been helping Upton and realizes she is missing. Their newfound connection seems to be helpful to both of them as they find their footing.

Lucky for Upton, Torres pays attention and is able to immediately bring the Intelligence Unit up to speed when he realizes she is missing.

Even though Chicago P.D. handled Jay’s departure quite well when it came to the rest of the team, it was handled terribly when it came to Hailey.

Jay picked up his things, left his wife, and to this day seems to be avoiding her by continuing to renew his contract without telling her. This situation hasn’t allowed Upton to move on at all.

That is probably why she doesn’t hesitate to show up for Lee when he calls. That is one of Jay’s people and she won’t hesitate to step up and pick up where he left off. Maybe this is her way of feeling close to her husband.

It is also this that allows her to connect with Lee and understand his actions. He stole the money because he wanted his girlfriend to come back to him. Hailey understands perfectly well what it is like to want your partner to come back to your life.

However, as the episode goes on, she begins to realize that being stuck in her past has caused her more harm than good. After all, this isn’t the first time since Jay left that Hailey has found herself in danger.

As viewers, there is a part of us that believes Hailey feels bad about Lee’s passing because she feels like she failed Jay. He left and asked her to always show up for Lee, to protect him, and now he is gone.

However, she cannot blame herself for this. She is doing the best she can to protect him, but she needs to protect herself as well.

And protect herself she does. Even though the team shows up, Hailey saves herself. She kicks ass and manages to break free.

Hopefully, this breaking free will extend to leaving Jay behind. Like Hank told her, it is okay to let go if she is the only one fighting.

Her letting go seems to come the moment she takes her wedding ring off.

For a long time, Upton has kept her feelings hidden from the team, not allowing them to see beyond the surface. Deciding to train with Torres is a step in the right direction.

He says he believes it helps her sleep, but it probably helps her more than that. It is a way for her to release all of her feelings in the presence of someone she can trust.

It is this newfound closeness that alerts the rest of the team. Knowing Voight, it becomes obvious very fast that he won’t let any more time go by without them fighting to find Hailey.

As per usual, he is in his full Voight force, threatening and yelling to make sure he is heard and Hailey comes home safe.

This episode of Chicago P.D. proves the team’s silent trust will persevere above everything else. Without really knowing if they are coming for her, Hailey leaves clues for them to find her.

It is that trust and connection that will help Upton overcome Jay’s departure and realize she will never be alone while she is a part of the Intelligence Unit.
