All Rise has lost five of the original seven writers in a writer’s room shakeup.
  • Of the five writers who departed the show; three were writers of color.
  • The exiting writers left the series citing attempts to combat showrunner Greg Spottiswood’s efforts to give the show a hollow commentary on race.
  • Writers cited having to do extensive clean up behind the scenes to keep certain storylines from being tone-deaf or offensive.
  • In response to allegations made by the writers, Warner Bros. TV launched an investigation and saw no need to remove Spottiswood from his post as executive producer. Instead, they hired a Black career coach to help him resolve problems within his team.
