The Boys Adds ‘Supernatural’ Star Jensen Ackles for Season 3
The second season of Amazon Prime original The Boys won’t hit our screens until September, but the show’s already making big moves for Season 3.
Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will join the cast as Soldier Boy, the universe’s original superhero, and a vague parody of Captain America. (Sorry for those who thought that void was already filled by Homelander.) In The Boys comic, Soldier Boy fought in World War II and became the world’s first “super celebrity.”

Ackles announced the news on Instagram, posting a sly video in which the actor wonders what he’s going to do with himself when his long road on Supernatural has ended.
In answer, a volume of the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic flies in from offscreen, as Elvis Presley’s “Soldier Boy” begins playing in the background.

This is exciting news for fans who have long wanted to see Ackles in some sort of superhero property, and it reunites the actor with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who is also the mind behind The Boys.
“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” Kripke said in a statement. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.
“As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role,” Kripke added. “I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”
The Boys‘ Season 3 renewal was announced during Comic Con@Home in July, and its highly anticipated second season will arrive on Amazon in September.
