Our 18 Favorite Ship Moments, In Honor Of Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and there’s romance in the air.
One of the best parts of being a TV addict is the wide range of heart-stopping relationships you get to see on a weekly basis. From amazing coming out stories, to enemies becoming lovers, to friends realizing their feelings go deeper, there’s just so much to love about love on the small-screen.
In honor of V-day, we’re taking a look back at 18 of our favorite ‘ship moments from the last year. (Spoilers below!)
1. Olicity’s faux-wedding (Arrow)

Let’s be real: neither 2016 or 2017 have been good years for Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak’s romantic relationship on Arrow. They’re particularly bad when compared to 2015, which was arguably their banner year – 2015 gave us the couple’s first time having sex, numerous “OMFG our hearts are exploding” declarations of love, and, of course, their eventual proposal.
But then, tragedy struck. First, Felicity was (briefly) paralyzed thanks to Damien Darhk. Then, there was the entire nonsensical “Oliver’s secret son” debacle. In the end, Olicity broke up and haven’t reunited since. To make things even worse, Oliver accidentally killed Felicity’s boyfriend Billy in the midseason finale. So… things are bad, to put it lightly.
But Season 4’s fake Olicity wedding – arranged to lure Cupid, who had been targeting high-profile couples, so they could take her down – is our light at the end of a dark, dismal tunnel. The wedding may have been a sham, but there was nothing insincere about Oliver’s vows to the woman he loves.
There was nothing forced about what Felicity said to Cupid about her own love for Oliver. And there was definitely nothing fake about Oliver’s face when he saw Olicity walk into the room in that gorgeous gown.
2. Clexa’s final goodbye in the City of Light (The 100)

Clarke Griffin and Lexa had plenty of incredible romantic and/or sexually tense moments in the first half of The 100 Season 3 – Lexa pledging fealty to Clarke, their much-anticipated first time having sex, and their heart-wrenching goodbye when Lexa died in Clarke’s arms are just a few examples. But their final goodbye in the City of Light takes the cake for one simple reason.
Lexa shouldn’t have died – let’s just put that out there. Her death was the easiest way out, plot-wise, to write the character off of the show and free up Alycia Debnam Carey to appear on Fear the Walking Dead. Even worse, the way she died was abysmal, fitting into every tired trope about LGBT characters’ deaths. But her farewell in the City of Light – that was perfect. That was how Lexa should have gone out to begin with – fighting side by side with the woman she loves, saving everyone.
Of course, the City of Light sequence was also an incredible showcase for the chemistry between the two actresses that made this ‘ship so beloved to begin with.
Lexa’s smirk when she shows up in the nick of time to save Clarke, the two of them gazing at each other in disbelief after thinking they’d never see each other again, Clarke immediately kissing Lexa when she revived just in case she didn’t have time to do it later, the “I love you” – there was just so much to love about the Clexa scenes of the Season 3 finale.
3. Jamie and Claire’s farewell (Outlander)

Our hearts broke and our hearts soared as Jamie and Claire said goodbye on Outlander. Because it was the right thing to do, and yet it wasn’t. How could Claire sacrifice her life and that of her unborn child to stay with Jamie? How could he ask send her away? How can two people love this much and not be together?
It was heartbreaking and real and it didn’t hurt any less because we knew it was coming. But even in the depths of despair, there was hope. A love like that surely could not end like this, could it?
4. WayHaught is bulletproof (Wynonna Earp)

Clexa may have been doomed, but Waverly Earp and Officer Nicole Haught both exited the first season of Wynonna Earp alive (though we’re just a tad concerned about Waverly’s welfare at the moment). This pair had more than a few totally sexy and swoon-worthy moments in the first season (the first meeting, the first kiss, being gorgeous and flirty in formalwear, Waverly scissoring a stripper). But it’s hard to compete with their final scene of Season 1.
In this scene, Waverly’s gone-evil older sister held Haught at gunpoint in order to snag Peacemaker and make off with it. In the course of doing this, she revealed Waverly’s as-of-yet secret relationship with Nicole to the adorably oblivious Wynonna.
The whole scene was tense and super worrisome (particularly after Lexa’s death on The 100 earlier the same year), but on the bright side, Haught’s life being in danger provoked Waverly’s declaration of love. Waverly begged Wynonna to do as Willa demands, telling her older sister (and by extension Haught) that she loves Haught. Bonus points for a lesbian subverting the Bury Your Gays trope with a literal bulletproof vest, y’all.
5. Magnus interrupts Alec’s wedding (Shadowhunters)

Alec’s angsty and unrequited love for Jace took up a lot of Shadowhunters‘ first season, but once we got past that, we moved into prime Malec territory.
Harry Shum Jr. was an absolute gem and a stand-out as warlock Magnus Bane in the series, and the chemistry between Magnus and Alec was simmering from the moment the two first shared a screen.
Magnus interrupting Alec’s loveless wedding to Lydia was a perfect moment. Alec’s response – leaving Lydia (who was totes cool with it all, btw) at the altar and planting a pretty epic first kiss on Magnus – provided one of the greatest and most immediately iconic moments on the show’s first season. Also, let’s just put this out there – these two look smokin’ hot together in formalwear.
