Has ‘The Rookie: Feds’ Been Renewed?
Where does The Rookie Universe stand after The Rookie: Feds‘ debut season?
As previously reported, ABC renewed the mothership show for a sixth season, which will include its landmark 100th episode, in April 2023.
That renewal news came weeks before its fifth season finale, The Rookie Season 5 Episode 22, “Under Siege,” aired on the network. Alternatively, ABC has yet to announce a renewal or cancellation for its spinoff series, The Rookie: Feds.

The Niecy Nash-Betts-led drama debuted on Tuesday, September 27, at 10/9c as a part of ABC’s Fall primetime programming for the 2022/2023 season. The Rookie: Feds comes from co-creators, co-showrunners, and executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter.
Before Nash-Betts’ Simone Clark’s debut on The Rookie: Feds, the character made her introduction on two episodes of The Rookie.
Simone first appeared as the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy on The Rookie Season 4 Episode 19, “Simone,” and The Rookie Season 4 Episode 20, “Enervo.”
Nathan Fillion’s Officer John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), “and the L.A. division of the FBI enlist the help of Simone Clark when one of her former students is a suspect in a terror attack,” per their description.

The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 1, “Day One,” premiered months later and introduced the ensemble of Frankie R. Faison as Christopher “Cutty” Clark, James Lesure as Carter Hope, Britt Robertson as Laura Stensen, Felix Solis as Special Agent Matthew Garza, and Kevin Zegers as Brendon Acres.
ABC shared in October 2022 that The Rookie: Feds‘ series debut jumped nearly 5x in adults 18-49 after delayed multiplatform viewing. The episode’s viewership meant the spinoff series opened as ABC’s top-rated new series since November 2020.
Since its debut, the spinoff series welcomed multiple stars of The Rookie in various crossovers, including Fillion, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Alyssa Diaz, Shawn Ashmore, and Richard T. Jones.
In November, ABC announced that The Rookie Universe would have its block on Tuesday nights. The new programming debuted with the crossover event of The Rookie Season 5 Episode 10, “The List,” at 8/9c and The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 10, “The Silent Prisoner,” at 9/8c on January 3.

The spinoff series wrapped up its debut season on May 2 with The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 22, “Red One.” Simone planned to celebrate her 49th birthday, and Garza faced a moral conflict as a guilty man had roamed free for years.
When asked about the chances of returning for Season 2 in May, Niecy Nash-Betts told TV Line, “I don’t know the fate of that show, but I do know that in the same article I read that said that it was on the bubble, it also said that I was one of the most sought-after actresses at this time.”
“So we’ll see. But I love my job at [The] Rookie: Feds. I love the people that I work with, so being able to do another season of it would be like heaven to me,” she added. As reported in June, Nash-Betts echoed similar sentiments to Variety, “I’m waiting with you, but I feel good about it.”
Mark Gordon, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nathan Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross, Corey Miller, Michael Goi, and Bibby Dunn executive produce. Entertainment One (eOne) is the lead studio and international distributor of The Rookie: Feds, a co-production with ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios.
