When Do ‘The Rookie’ and ‘The Rookie: Feds’ Return from Hiatus?

The Rookie

The Rookie and The Rookie: Feds unite with a crossover event as the shows join forces on Tuesday nights on ABC.

The procedural dramas return on Tuesday, January 3, at new times. The Rookie Season 5 Episode 10, “The List,” will air at 8/7c, leading into The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 10, “The Silent Prisoner,” at 9/8c.

The shows’ return marks a change from The Rookie‘s usual slot on Sundays at 10/9c and The Rookie: Feds‘ spot on Wednesdays at 10/9c.

Uniting the shows on the same night puts The Rookie and The Rookie: Feds on the same caliber as the Law & Order, One Chicago, FBI, and Grey’s Anatomy franchises.

Based on The Rookie‘s episode description, most of the crossing over may occur in The Rookie: Feds‘ hour, where, as Carter says in the promo video, a heist crew steals a list of undercover agents currently in the field.

However, the episode’s title, “The List,” suggests that The Rookie‘s team may get a tip-off about the suspect during its hour.

The “extremely dangerous” suspect will understandably require plenty of back-up, especially as it seems that the suspect takes The Rookie‘s cops and The Rookie: Feds‘ agents on a car chase, amongst other complications.

Without the crossover plot, both shows have plenty to address based on cliffhangers from their respective winter finales.

For instance, after years of anticipation, Tim Bradford finally asks Lucy Chen on a date on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 9, “Take Back.” The show’s return will see Chenford go on that long-awaited first date, but the couple will face a few complications.

As for the spinoff, “The Silent Prisoner” needs to provide some updates regarding Matthew Garza’s health after his apparent heart attack at the end of The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 9, “Flashback.”

So, The Rookie and The Rookie: Feds are kicking off 2023 with an action-packed crossover event on the heels of two exciting winter finales.
