The official Heartstopper Season 2 trailer is here ahead of when the season starts streaming on Thursday, August 3, on Netflix, as previously reported.

Love is in the air as Charlie wants Nick “to come out how and when” he wants to, and Elle wants to make her crush on Tao known, per Netflix’s TUDUM.

While Charlie wants to protect Nick, Tara suggests Elle flirt with Tao, which leads to Elle complimenting Tao’s hair ahead of a haircut.

Meanwhile, Tara drops the “L” bomb on Darcy while assuring Darcy that Tara doesn’t expect Darcy to say it back. Plus, it appears that Isaac may get his own love interest on Heartstopper Season 2.

“With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship,” per the season’s logline.

If any of the scenes in the trailer for Heartstopper‘s sophomore outing look familiar to readers of Alice Oseman’s beloved graphic novel series, it’s because this season is based on Volume 3.

“So we had a good foundation. But there’s not enough in the book to take a whole season of TV, so there had to be a lot of creation of new stuff,” Oseman told TUDUM.

Oseman wants to preserve “the hopeful heart of Heartstopper.” “In Season 2, the characters… all feel a little older and wiser, and with that comes a whole host of new experiences and emotions,” Oseman adds, per TV Line.

“While Season 1 followed a typical romance story structure, Season 2 takes a deeper look into teen relationships [at] various stages and sees the characters begin to explore more complex emotional truths about themselves and each other,” Oseman continued.

Heartstopper was renewed for a second and third season in May 2022 — only a month after its series debut on Netflix in April.

As previously reported, the new season will also see Bel Priestly, Ash Self, and Thibault de Montalember join the show’s cast. While Priestly and Self will portray Naomi and Felix — new friends of Elle, de Montalember will play Nick’s father.

Heartstopper‘s returning cast members include Joe Locke, Kit Conner, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corrina Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, and Jenny Walser.

Fisayo Akinade, Chetna Pandya, Alan Turkington, and Olivia Colman will also return.
