‘Heartstopper’ Renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 On Netflix

News

Heartstopper stopped the audience’s hearts when it premiered on Netflix in April of 2022. Based on the webcomic and graphic novel by Alice Oseman, the TV adaptation witnessed the characters on those pages come to life for eight episodes.

When it comes to queer representations, LGBTQ+ viewers can be distrustful of what the media will portray. So, when news hit about a queer teen rom-com series on Netflix, no one knew what to expect. Thankfully, the show surpassed expectations!

Now fans of Oseman’s graphic novels will see their favorite characters come back to life once more as Netflix has renewed Heartstopper for two more seasons.

Season 1 of Heartstopper narrates what happened in the first two volumes. Could it be possible that the next two seasons dive into the remaining two volumes?

In February 2023, Oseman will release the final volume of her story. There is a possibility that Netflix may wait for it to see where to take the show next. The ending is still pretty open; for both the novel and the show.

Maybe the new volume would open the door for a Season 4 to happen down the road? Or perhaps it gives the showrunners the possibility to explore Oseman’s first novel, Solitaire, and provide fans with more details regarding Charlie’s sister.

The possibilities are endless as the author will return as a writer and Executive Producer for the next two seasons.

Nick, Charlie, Elle, Tao, Tara, Darcy, and Isaac became the group of friends every queer kid wishes to grow up and navigate their sexuality with. They also portray different tropes that TV usually does not like to explore.

Hopefully, Seasons 2 and 3 will dig deeper into these characters and their emotions. How will Nick and Charlie’s relationship develop now that they are openly dating?

Although there were some reactions from their schoolmates, it would be interesting to see how this rugby superstar is accepted among his peers after coming out. It would also affect Charlie and how he is seen in school after being bullied for so long.

One thing many fans are waiting to see is how Elle and Tao’s relationship changes. At the end of Season 1, Elle has feelings for her friend. Fans of the graphic novel probably know what happens, but fans solely of the show will have to wait and see.

Undoubtedly, the moment that made everyone’s hearts stop during the first season is when Nick comes out to his mother. Olivia Coleman’s portrayal of Sarah Nelson is probably one of the best of the year, and many tears were shed.

As Nick tells his mother he is bisexual, different emotions are felt in the audience.

Whether you had a good coming out story, you are struggling to come out, or the results of your coming out were not as expected, the scene is how everyone wishes their story would end.

The hug between mother and son and her acceptance proves the show is a feel-good story created in a world where it does not always feel right to be yourself.

Now, fans can rest easy knowing we will get to relive that feeling and continue to follow this group of friends as they keep growing, experiencing, learning, and making mistakes.

No date has been set to begin filming Heartstopper‘s second season. In the meantime, we might as well rewatch Season 1.
