Will Trent Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Unable to Locate

Will finds himself in major danger. However, it ends up being a good thing because it highlights the strength of his relationships with several women in his life. Will Trent Season 1 Episode 7, “Unable to Locate,” takes a look at Will and Angie’s dark past to offer hope for a brighter future — we just aren’t sure if that’s together or apart.

Cleverly, the episode starts with Amanda and Faith invading Will’s space, his home. This sets up a metaphor for how they enter his life.

Whether he wants them there or not, they are now important pieces of his life. They care about him. He cares for them.

“Unable to Locate” explores Faith, Amanda, and Angie having to deal with the fear that Will may not make it back to them. Each woman deals with it in their own way.

Their reactions also reflect their personalities and relationships with Will. Faith takes charge and brings down the bad guys of the week. This highlights that Faith is very good at her job.

Her talents may even rival Will’s detective skills.

Amanda throws everything at finding Will. However, once he’s safe, she hides her emotions. She pretends that having to save him is a costly burden.

However, as Will points out, this response to his disappearance shows how much she cares about him. With Will gone, Angie reflects on her relationship with him. She also wonders about their future as possible parents.

Will mirrors her reflection by exploring a time in their past when Amanda was pregnant before. It shows the strength and resilience of their relationship.

Additionally, it shows both of their personal trauma. In their youth, they experience abuse and pain so regularly that the conversation on sexual assault and physical violence comes easily.

It’s a sad reality that makes their characters more fascinating.

Furthermore, it makes you wonder how they go from fearing and not trusting law enforcement to cops themselves. That’s a topic for another episode of Will Trent.

The personal struggles of Will and Angie and their relationship give “Unable to Locate” its meat. However, the cases of the week take a back seat.

The outcome of these cases almost feels irrelevant, because it’s all a way to explore the emotional struggle of Will and Angie.

The entire episode really works to set up some inner struggles of the show’s main characters. We also see this with Michael.

Of the Will Trent characters, he’s the one where we see flashes of his life but never a full picture. This episode gives him more layers.

Despite being the only character with an established picturesque family, his trauma is just as prevalent as the rest of the characters. Actually, he may be even more messed up than everyone else.

He has a family but still suffers from rage. His infidelity and secrets also threaten to destroy his life.

Like Will and Angie, his past may have a few dark threads.

Angie and Will are still an anomaly in Will Trent. The relationship has a rich and fascinating history, but what does that mean in the grand scheme of things?

They are definitely soulmates of sorts but that doesn’t necessarily mean a happily ever after or even a solid relationship. The codependency works now, but in the long term, it may end up hurting their growth.

Their wounds bond them but maybe it’s time to form connections outside of their cycle. They need to experience life without each other to see if they really want forever together.

Stray Thoughts

• I love Faith and Will’s extremely awkward hug.
• The actors playing young Will and Angie did such a good job, especially emulating their patterns of speech.
• The music in “Unable to Locate” is a vibe.
• Betty remains the cutest dog currently on TV.
