Will Trent Season 4 Episode 8 Review: We’re Looking for a Vampire

Reviews, Will Trent

There is nothing like solving crime to grow a father and son bond. Will Trent Season 4 Episode 8, “We’re Looking for a Vampire” showcases the new father-son dynamic between Caleb and Will. This episode proves how much the show excels at selling characters.

The series introduced Caleb last season as Will’s long lost father. He has made several appearances in Season 4, but “We’re Looking for a Vampire” is his first starring episode.

The main plot revolves around Will and Caleb.

The episode makes you love Caleb. He’s still not as beloved as some other recurring characters, but he’s become very fun and likable. The Will Trent casting team deserves so much credit for their work.

Ramon Rodriguez also may be one of those rare actors who can have chemistry with any of his screen partners. He’s so fun in scenes with any of them, including Betty.

Rodriguez has been stepping back a little this season, by allowing more of the other characters to shine. It’s been nice to see Faith, Angie, and Ormewood have more lead storylines this year.

However, the Will focused episodes are always a highlight, even if the storyline isn’t the strongest. “We’re Looking for a Vampire” works because of Caleb and Will. It acts as a way for them to bond (and fight).

It’s also another moment of Will showcasing his anger issues. This thread has been strong all season and will likely lead somewhere on the finale.

“We’re Looking for a Vampire” is also another strong Ormewood episode. He really has become one of they hearts of the show. Seeing Amanda and he have that moment truly demonstrates his growth over four seasons.

Seeing Amanda breakdown was also powerful. She has always been the backbone of the group. Her PTSD storyline is such a moving one because you see how this incident has shaken this fierce force.

If someone like Amanda can experience PTSD, anyone can.

Amanda’s vulnerability to Sonja Sohn’s performance to a next level. You feel the intensity and weight of these moments.  Your hearts genuinely break for her.  This makes her final interactions with Ormewood so powerful.

The characters barely interact throughout the four seasons, but this moment, shows their relationship. They may not have a long history or close bond, but they respect each other.

This moment gives them some understanding.

“We’re Looking for a Vampire” fails to deliver a compelling mystery, but the vampire stuff is fun. It’s definitely an entertaining episode, but not necessarily one of the show’s strongest. Nonetheless, it’s an important episode for the season.

It’s helping to establish and grow Will and Caleb’s bond. We’re also getting more layers to Will.

Last season he dealt with some trauma over his mistake. This season, he’s releasing his inner rage in create  (and sometimes destructive ways).
