Will Trent Season 4 Episode 9 Review: It Was a Meat Cute
Sometimes it’s all right to have a little fun. That’s the premise in Will Trent Season 4 Episode 9,” It Was a Meat Cute.” Will follows the rules and lives an orderly life, but he loves the chaos Ava brings into it.
He steps far from his comfort zone in this episode to engage in some behavior that includes several crimes. Will can close his eyes to misconduct when a pretty lady comes along.
Ava and Will end up bringing down a few criminals, but not before committing some crimes themselves, including almost engaging in sexual activity in a public vehicle.

Will really is becoming a wilder version of himself.
It’s nice to see Will let his hair down a bit after a very intense Season 3. Additionally, Season 4 constantly reminds us that his anger bubbles beneath the surface.
Ava is good for Will.
The series has only really shown Will in one other relationship. Angie and Will’s entire relationship revolved around their shared trauma. The intensity of their dynamic made them work.
Now, they are both engaging in happy, healthy romances.

Seth has been a supportive and loving partner. Ava has been some fun that Will has needed for so long. Ava and Will know that their relationship has an expiration date.
It’s fun for now, not forever.
“It Was a Meat Cute” perfectly showcases why viewers should root for this couple. It’s not a relationship that’s going to cause any disruption in either of their lives, but some fun for both. Ramon Rodriguez and Julia Chan have an abundance of chemistry.
This makes it easy to get swept away in their frolick and easy romance. Eventually, Will will need a long-term love interest, but for now, just let Ava and him have fun. It adds some comedy and lightheartedness to Will Trent – both the man and the show.
The series has been perfecting the idea of balancing seriousness with silliness. Every episode of the season has done some combination of a more grounded, heartwrenching story and something silly going on as a side or main plotline.

In each episode in Season 4, you don’t know if Ormewood will be part of the series or a silly storyline. “It Was a Meat Cute” lets Jake McLaughlin show off his serious acting.
It almost feels like Season 4 has become a long audition for an Ormewood spin-off. He’s become such a star this season. The fact that his character could have died last season almost feels unbelievable.
The range and spectrum of Ormewood have been shining through on Will Trent Season 4. This episode allows us to see his transformation. He goes from a cop who does his job fine but doesn’t care either way, to someone who cannot accept or live with the mistakes he made, especially if they cause someone else harm.
The Ormewood of Season 4 is nowhere near the guy we met in Season 1. His character has experienced the biggest transformation and growth over the past few years.
Both cases work only because of the character development they inspire in our favorite characters. Ormewood’s trying to stop a man’s execution highlights his growth and heart.

Will and Ava trying to track down Meatloaf’s urn highlights their chemistry and how Will embraces more fun when with her. “It Was a Meat Cute” works because it puts characters first, case second.
Stray Thoughts
- I was also a little weirded out by Will trying to make out in a self-driving car. Have some dignity and decor.
- Did we just witness Ormewood’s next love interest?
- I am surprised Angie is still working and pregnant. She looks ready to pop at this point.
