Will Trent Season 4 Episode 5 Review: Nice to Meet You, Malcolm

Reviews, Will Trent

Good surprises rarely happen with Will that involve romance.  Will Trent Season 4 Episode 5, “Nice to Meet You, Malcolm,” proves this.

Faith finally gets a new love interest, but he may be a criminal. Just a typical day for the GBI.

Things feel a bit too familiar when “Nice to Meet You, Malcolm” begins. It almost seems like a repeat of Amanda’s brief fling a few seasons back. They both involve a night of passion and a mysterious stranger – who may or may not be a criminal.

This makes the detail about Faith using Amanda’s name funny. However, Will Trent fails to convince us that Faith and Malcolm are in this epic love story. The chemistry between Iantha Richardson and DeVaughn Nixon is fine.

“Nice to Meet You, Malcolm” just doesn’t sell the dream of them. This makes the twist not as impactful. Additionally, you kind of see it coming.

Things move too fast between Faith and him, which may alert the most intuitive fans to something not quite being right. However, you know that this is a blow to Faith’s enthusiasm for love.

Faith has this bump in her love journey for a reason. Will Trent Season 3 started Ormewood and Faith’s bonding. They basically coparent.

Nonetheless, the romantic prospect still seems ambiguous. Now, when talking about Faith’s new love interest, Ormewood didn’t seem happy about it.

However, he didn’t seem devastated. We still probably have a long way to go before Ormewood and Faith become anything more than friends. “Nice to Meet You, Malcolm,” however, may have some important developments on that front.

Well, the start of it. Any Ormewood and Faith moment will likely happen during the next episode. It’s nice to see Faith find a romance.

Her last steady boyfriend on the show worked, but the writers never gave him enough screentime to become more than a footnote on the series and her life. She needs one that sticks around.

Because Will Trent is in its fourth season, there is a chance that Ormewood and Faith will have a major romantic moment by the end of the season. It’s not too soon for them to have a highly charged moment.

We may also just meet a new guy who becomes her love interest temporarily. The possibilities are not endless, but a few.

This could be the same situation with Will and Ava: a fun romance before the long-term love interest comes around. Faith’s next romantic chapter is loading.

We’re excited for that possibility.

However, the introduction of Malcolm and this twist didn’t seem like it needed a two-part episode. We all know this will end with Faith outsmarting Malcolm.

He ends up in prison. This romance is dead, even if Malcolm doesn’t end up that way. Its main purpose seems to be to set up Faith to want a real relationship.

We expect her to get it.

Overall, “Nice to Meet You, Malcolm” is a fine episode, but it doesn’t feel like it earns its importance. We aren’t as invested in the Faith and Malcolm romance to be shocked or upset by the twist.

However, it sets up some potential excitement for Faith’s romantic future.
