High Potential Season 2 Episode 12 Review: The Faust and the Furious

High Potential, Reviews

The first season of a series usually involves trying to survive and potentially thrive. Season 2 is where the lore begins. High Potential Season 2 Episode 12, “The Faust and the Furious,” continues the season’s pattern of planning for the future.

Morgan and Karadec will likely end up as a couple in the future. However, even if the show decides to keep them strictly platonic, it’s building towards a life where they’re very close. They become each other’s family.

The Karadec and Morgan dynamic has already transformed so much from the first to the second season. They speak to one another like lifelong friends. There is an established trust.

Karadec and Morgan are almost becoming too close. It wouldn’t surprise us if the season finale involves Wagner forcing them to separate. Despite how close they’re already becoming, High Potential needs to create an unbreakable bond.

Therefore, moments like what happens in “The Faust and the Furious” are necessary. It shows Karadec as an anchor for her.

It also shows that Morgan isn’t unshakable. The genius consultant often seems fearless and beyond human emotions, like fear. That’s why it takes us by surprise when she panics about death.

It’s a reasonable and logical fear, but it’s not one we expect from Morgan. However, it makes sense when you know the importance of her family. The idea of losing them becomes too unbearable.

Karadec acts calm and collected in this situation. It’s an amazing watch. Kaitlin Olson is a fantastic comedic actress.

Nonetheless, High Potential occasionally allows her to display her flair for drama as well. But the panic about the death scene may be one of the best we see from Olson.

You feel her fear in that moment.

It makes the potential severity of this instance feel so real. This also helps sell the idea of Karadec being her anchor. He’s the only one who can relax her enough to stop her panic.

As viewers, we know that Morgan will be fine. However, if an actor excels at their job, they convince us of the danger.  Olson makes us believe every moment of her fear.

The intensity of this scene takes the series to the next level. The ABC hit is a dramedy but leans more into the comedy aspects.

High Potential Season 2 Episode 12 - DENIZ AKDENIZ, JACQUELINE ANTARAMIAN
HIGH POTENTIAL – “The Faust and the Furious”  Deniz Akdeniz, Jacqueline Antaramian (Disney/Jessica Perez)

This time, we get to see how well it can do drama. High Potential has had dramatic moments many times before.  Nonetheless, this is one of the show’s shining moments.

“The Faust and the Furious” also explores more of Oz’s life. The show has really brought more depth to these characters in the second season. We’re learning who they are beyond their badges.

Oz breaks your heart as he tries so hard to help his family during this trying time. Additionally, when Selena mentioned that Oz is not going to work that day, it seems as if Deniz Akdeniz won’t appear in this episode.

It immediately feels odd. The core five characters have been in every episode, and we notice it.

This shows our attachment to these characters. The High Potential writers deserve credit for making us care about each one, especially since we don’t know much about them.

High Potential Season 2 Episode 11 - JAVICIA LESLIE
HIGH POTENTIAL – “NPC” – Javicia Leslie (Disney/Mitch Haaseth)

Each one of them matters.

Overall, “The Faust and the Furious” has a fun case, but the heart belongs to the moments where the humanity of this team comes alive. We need more dramatic acting from Olson.

The building of High Potential’s lore also makes it apparent that it’s planning for five seasons down the line. We respect the confidence.
