Superman & Lois Casts Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor for Season 3

Lex Luthor is (finally) coming to Superman & Lois!

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported that The Walking Dead‘s Michael Cudlitz will appear as the iconic supervillain in The CW show’s upcoming third season.

As previously reported, Superman & Lois Season 3 premieres with Gotham Knights, launching the network’s Super Knight on Tuesday, March 14 at 8/7c.

Superman & Lois‘ Season 3 trailer debuted last week and teased a lot of life-altering twists for the Kent family, including Lois being pregnant.

The season description is as follows:

Clark and Lois are now working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents’ romantic bliss only shines a light on how isolating “the secret” can be, as Chrissy struggles to balance a new love interest and her friendship with Lois. However, Lois’ own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough. Meanwhile, the Kent boys find themselves being pulled in opposite directions as Jordan discovers what a superhero-identity really means and Jonathan searches for purpose beyond the football field. Amid all this upheaval, John Henry is haunted by his doppelgänger’s past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie. Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores what the future holds for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his powers. Having learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work with Superman, General Samuel Lane reclaims his post at the Department of Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.

The third season opens only weeks after Superman defeats Ally Allston and prevents two worlds from merging on Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 15, “Waiting for Superman.”

That season finale also teases the arrival of Bruno Manheim, the Head of Intergang, through an interaction between John Henry Irons and Superman & Lois‘ John Diggle, who is also played by the Arrowverse’s David Ramsey. 

In September 2022, TV Line exclusively reported that Chad L. Coleman would play Bruno Manheim in the upcoming season.

Despite Diggle’s casting and Jenna Dewan’s return as Lucy Lane, the Season 2 finale reveals that Superman & Lois does not exist within the Arroweverse but its own, unique universe. 

Cudlitz casting as Lex Luthor is yet another sign that Superman & Lois is building out its universe away from the Arrowverse, as Jon Cryer debuted his rendition of the role during Supergirl‘s fourth season.

Per TV Line, Cudtliz’s Lex Luthor is “known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with.”

“When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman and Lois Lane,” the description continued.

Along with Cudlitz’s addition to Superman & Lois‘ cast, Season 3 will also see Michael Bishop take up the role of Jonathan Kent. Jordan Elsass’ exited the superhero family drama after the second season.

The upcoming season is a little under two months away and Superman and Lois’ antagonists are starting to come together.
