‘Superman & Lois’ to Recast Jonathan Kent as Jordan Elsass Exits the Series
Jordan Elsass will not be returning for Superman & Lois Season 3 on The CW, leaving the series to recast the role of Jonathan Kent.
Relating to Elsass’ departure, Deadline reported that “the decision was made after…Elsass did not report back to work by the deadline given to the cast to reconvene in Vancouver where Superman & Lois films.”
While there is no comment yet from Jordan Elsass, Variety confirms from “sources close to the production” that “the actor’s exit is not a result of a workplace-related issue.”

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. TV’s stated, “Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season three due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”
Elsass, who has been a part of the superhero family drama since its premiere last year, has brought great depth to Jonathan Kent through the highs and lows of his formative years.
That journey includes everything from Jonathan trying to succeed on Smallville High’s football team to coping with not having superpowers as he faced a Bizarro version of himself.
At PaleyFest 2022, his costar Alexander Garfin spoke highly of Elsass’ performance and the passion he brought to the very different role. Garfin said, “Him getting to play a villain — or someone who is “off” — someone that could be in that realm, was something that he’s always wanted, and he thinks it’s great.”

Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 15, “Waiting for Superman,” continued to tease that Jonathan would one day get his own super suit as the Kent family created a new Fortress of Solitude for all of them. That hope for the future came after a season-long fight with Bizarro versions of characters.
Plus, it contained the breaking news that Superman & Lois is not a part of the Arrowverse — despite Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch both debuting their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane within that universe.
The first two seasons of Superman & Lois are now streaming on HBO Max. As previously reported, the third season will return to The CW during its midseason slate, alongside Nancy Drew, Gotham Knights, and others.

My only surprise is that this didn’t happen sooner. When someone creates instagram stories multiple times over the last 2 years complaining about Canada’s covid rules, seems miserable filming there and then posts about their mental health they’re pretty much telegraphing they don’t want to come back. Hopefully he can sort himself out. Love this show and Tyler & Bitsie. It’s always difficult to recast but hopefully they find the right person and the fans give them a chance.
Not a surprise, he made it clear that he was unhappy having to be in Vancouver. Hopefully he can get to a good place.
Thinking on this, I’d find it an interesting story to see Clark, Lois and Jordan deal with the loss of a child & sibling. With these actors it could be very powerful stuff. If the show wants to maintain the 2 brothers aspect you can introduce Connor Kent later in the season and see how they are struggling with that.
