Deadline exclusively reported the news about the comedy that debuted in September 2020. The streaming service dropped all eight episodes of the second and now final season in April this year. Now, the series has 16 episodes total.

The premiere date for its second season came during Hulu’s unveiling of trailers for its latest slate, including Conversations with Friends and The Dropout amongst others.

Per its description, Woke follows cartoonist Keef Knight who becomes “a popular activist on the rise, but he’s facing a world where “woke” has become big business.”

On the verge of mainstream success, Keef wonders if he and his friends can bring about real change when everything seems to be about the money. So, Keef goes about trying “navigate this new world without destroying what he’s become.”

In its second season, “Woke continues to upend Black nerd and activist culture, deftly satirizing with a wink and a smile.” Keith Knight himself wrote the now series finale — Season 2 Episode 8, “Kill Keef Knight.”

Woke‘s dedication to creative storytelling, having been inspired by the life and work of an artist, shines through its combination of live-action and animated sequences.

Additionally, Woke was among the shows that faced setbacks when TV shows returned to work during the pandemic. Variety exclusively reported on its third shut-down during Season 2’s production.

Still, Woke delivered its second season that unexpectedly became the last. This two-season cap is becoming a pattern for Hulu, who also recently canceled Dollface after two seasons.

Woke was developed by Marshall Todd and Keith Knight. The co-creators serve as executive producers alongside Anthony King, Maurice “Mo” Marable, Richie Schwartz, John Will, Will Gluck, and Eric Christian Olsen. The comedy is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature.

Woke Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Hulu.
