The Good Fight: 26 Characters from ‘The Good Wife’ We’d Love to See on the Spinoff

Lists, Pinned
7. Judge Patrice Lessner

Judge Patrice Lessner, The Good Wife

The Good Wife had an impeccable track record with the casting of the judges and The Good Fight has already dipped into that well. Judge Abernathy showed up during the first season and Judge Lessner should be the next to appear.

Viewers of the original series will remember Judge Lessner as the Judge who made lawyers always say “in my opinion.” It was a delight whenever she showed up and she’d be a guest star that would tap into the nostalgia of those who have been watching Diane since The Good Wife.

8. Glenn Childs

Glenn Childs, The Good Wife

Glenn Childs was the first great villain of The Good Wife and you can always use a good villain. While The Good Fight used Mike Kresteva successfully as a foil, the fact that he’s corrupt oddly enough is what hurt him as a villain.

Childs is an effective adversary because he is duplicitous yet he works for the United States government, most recently the Department of Justice. He may be wrong, but he’s a scumbag yet not a monster. Titus Welliver plays a great villain and Childs was one of the show’s few well-executed ones.

9. Maddie Hayward

Maddie Hayward (Maura Tierney), The Good Wife

Maddie Hayward kind of worked as Peter’s opponent in the governor’s race, but definitely didn’t work as a potential friend for Alicia. The Good Fight discussed America with President Trump quite often and liberal titan Maddie Hayward would be an interesting character in this context.

Maddie advocates for women in politics and speaks out against corruption. She was an enemy of Alicia’s on The Good Wife, but on the new show, she could be an asset.

10. Andrew Wiley

Andrew Wiley (Tim Guinee), The Good Wife

The Kings make great television, but their shows shine when there are big stakes. When Alicia, Diane, Will and the rest of the characters went up against worthy adversaries the show was its best. Who better to reuse than Andrew Wiley, the man who broke Alicia and Kalinda’s friendship.

Andrew works because he’s interesting as an investigator and he gets results. As someone who also sides with “the good guys,” he’d be a thorn in the side of the entire firm. The Good Fight has not shown how Colin’s employer gets their information, so maybe it’s Andrew.

11. Imani Stonehouse

Imani Stonehouse (Nicole Beharie), The Good Wife

Nicole Beharie’s Imani Stonehouse got a raw deal on The Good Wife as an Assistant U.S. Attorney sent in to check out the State’s Attorney’s office when Peter was in charge. After two episodes, she disappeared.

Aside from the argument that Beharie’s deserves better from television – I’m looking at your Sleepy Hollow – Imani was a brilliant woman of color that The Good Wife did not use at all. The Good Fight should.

12. Derrick Bond

Derrick Bond (Michael Ealy), The Good Wife

Derrick Bond may not have been the strongest villain on The Good Wife, but revenge is a great reason to return for the spinoff. After all, it was Diane and Will who kicked him out of the firm. Also, Julius Cain, a big piece of the plan to oust Bond, was recently made a series regular on The Good Fight, so Derrick’s return would impact several existing characters.

Bond worked in Chicago and was a successful lawyer when he was introduced. On many occasions, The Good Wife mentioned how small Chicago was, so odds are someone at Reddick, Boseman, & Kolstad knows him.

13. Vanessa Gold

Vanessa Gold (Parker Posey), The Good Wife

Those who came from The Good Wife to watch The Good FIght are anticipating the return of Eli Gold, but the return of another Gold is also in order. Marissa is currently Diane’s assistant at the law firm and her mother Vanessa Gold should pay her a visit.

Vanessa is a relatively unknown figure in the franchise, so The Good Fight can both explore Marissa’s life and make a splash with the eccentric character. After appearing in a handful of episodes viewers met her and know her, but not well.

While Eli’s return would be welcome, The Good Fight could decide to go with the uncharted territory. Viewers know Eli well and his return could overtake everything the new series is trying to do.
