The Diplomat Season 3 Premiere Date Revealed by Netflix

News

The Diplomat returns with a new season and a new president this fall on Netflix.

The political thriller series will debut its eight-episode third season on Thursday, October 16. The streamer’s announcement came with a new teaser video that shows what US Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) is up against.

Kate sets the tone for the season ahead when she tells her husband and diplomat, Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), “A terribly flawed woman is now the President, and only we know just how flawed.”

The latest teaser, which comes after Netflix’s first tease in June, ends with a final note from Hal. He tells Kate, “You will be in the White House watching what she does all the time.” The Diplomat Season 3 teaser, nor its synopsis, reveals what role Kate takes on to have that perspective.

The season’s synopsis, per TV Line, reveals that Kate finds herself living “the particular nightmare that is getting what you want” in Season 3. So, could Kate become the Vice President of the United States in Season 3?

The season’s synopsis continues as follows:

“She just accused Vice President Grace Penn of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she’s after the VP’s job. But now the President is dead, Kate’s husband Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn.”

“I was thrilled when I heard that Debora [Cahn, creator, showrunner, and executive producer] was interested in me doing something,” Whitford told Tudum.

“I had no idea what it was, but I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show. I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too. It’s an amazing cast,” Whitford continued.

The Diplomat‘s returning cast includes Russell, Sewell, David Gyasi as British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission Stuart Hayford, Janney as President Grace Penn, and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge.
