The Diplomat Renewed for Season 5 at Netflix
The Diplomat has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix!
This news comes just two weeks after the political drama dropped its highly-anticipated, eight-episode fourth season on the streamer.
Netflix shared the announcement with a fun graphic featuring Keri Russell as the titular character, Kate Wyler.
As Variety confirms, there are no details about The Diplomat Season 5 — yet.
Fans will know that Season 4 ended with quite the cliffhanger. Kate took a stand against President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and resigned at the G7. Kate’s husband, Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), followed suit by walking out.
That alone gives The Diplomat plenty to work with in its upcoming season.
The Diplomat Season 4 saw Kate trying to find peace between two marriages: hers with Hal and President Penn’s with her husband, Todd (Bradley Whitford).
“While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home,” the synopsis reads.
The season also starred Ato Essandoh, Ali Ahn, and Nana Mensah.
The series has received a number of accolades and nominations in its run so far. For example, Allison Janney recently won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 78th Emmy Awards for her performance as President Grace Penn on The Diplomat‘s third season.
The Diplomat comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Debora Cahn. Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Keri Russell, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie are executive producers.
