Reviews, Will Trent

Will Trent starts the season with him lost and separating himself from Angie and the GBI. Will Trent Season 3 Episode 17, Why Hello, Sheriff,” explores Will and Angie at major crossroads in their individual journeys.

“Why Hello, Sheriff” starts with a big bang: Angie discovers her pregnancy. The episode begins in the hospital after her altercation in Will Trent Season 3 Episode 16, “Push, Jump, Fall.”

Episode 17 doesn’t start as expected because no one can truly claim they saw the Angie pregnancy news coming. It’s a major twist and surprise.

However, it’s a compelling twist and surprise. For the last few episodes, Angie has dealt with the complicated emotions over her mother’s death. They have had a toxic, complicated relationship all her life.

Therefore, it’s understandable that she questions whether motherhood is the right path for her.

Erika Christensen has been compelling this season, especially in the last few episodes. Her and Ramon Rodriguez’s scene discussing Dede’s death is one of her best moments in the series thus far. It’s emotionally riveting without pushing things too far to the point of melodrama.

Then Will’s casual remark about some women not being fit for motherhood tells us much about Angie’s current dilemma and pain. Will Trent could really start an interesting chapter if Angie decides to keep the child.

Nevertheless, her debating the decision is captivating enough that a baby storyline next season wouldn’t be necessary. It just takes the show down a thrilling path.

Additionally, we hope there isn’t some twist where Will is the father, but we know how these shows tend to go. Seth being the father doesn’t necessarily mean that Will and Angie are over for good. He could still become the stepfather if that is the path the series chooses with the baby and pregnancy.

The pregnancy opens the door for so much potential. Therefore, the hope is that this ABC dramedy explores it. Angie gets shocking news, but Will’s news might surpass hers. He just randomly meets his father.

Much of Will Trent Season 2 tackles Will finding out more about his mother’s side of the family. He was also haunted by the possibility that a serial killer could be his father.

We haven’t even thought much about Will’s family this season, so it feels strange to suddenly be confronted by a new piece to his DNA puzzle. The show introduces the character so casually that we have no clue that this man is about to become anything other than a one-and-done character.

It’s a clever way to reveal such a big thing. One of my complaints about Will Trent Season 1 was that it was predictable. However, Season 3 has completely smashed that idea.“Why Hello, Sheriff,” is the penultimate episode of Season 3, and it starts the finale off strongly.

We need to know how this season ends, especially now with a potential baby and a new dad.

Stray Thoughts
  • I noticed that Will and Caleb looked alike, but I didn’t think anything of it. That was very good casting.
  • Now I need to know the story about Will’s parents.
  • “Why Hello, Sheriff,” features Niko interacting with a lot of characters we don’t normally see them interacting with.
  • Ormewood and Will’s voice-over for Amanda and Pete is so funny.
  • Also, what is Amanda’s beef with Pete? She is quite intense with him.
  • A part of me is still waiting for the twist that Will is the baby’s father.
Personally, I would like to see Scott Foley as a series regular because I enjoy Christensen and his chemistry, but I don’t have much faith that it will happen.
