Rescue HI-Surf Canceled by FOX After One Season
Rescue HI-Surf has been canceled after one season on FOX.
Deadline exclusively reported the news, with the outlet’s sources sharing that “there are no plans for the show to be shopped by producing studio Warner Bros. Television.” Variety reports that the cancellation comes a week before the network’s presentation to advertisers at their annual upfronts in New York.
The Hawaii-set lifeguard drama premiered with Rescue HI-Surf Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot,” in September 2024. It wrapped up its 19-episode season with Rescue HI-Surf Season 1 Episode 19, “Let Go,” in April 2025.

As previously reported, Rescue HI-Surf was a part of FOX’s 2024/2025 programming slate, alongside the fifth and final season of 9-1-1: Lone Star and new series like Murder in a Small Town, which has already been renewed for Season 2. The network later announced that the show would debut after an NFL doubleheader.
The series followed “the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world,” per its logline.
Rescue HI-Surf starred Robbie Magasiva, Arielle Kebbel, Adam Demos, Kekoa Kekumano, Alex Aiono, and Zoe Cipres.
Despite its cancellation, fans of the show have shown their hope for a second season in online forums, like TVLine’s annual Save One Show poll. It also made Tell-Tale TV’s list of shows we couldn’t wait to watch in Fall 2024.

The series comes from executive producer and director John Wells and executive producer and writer Matt Kester, who created the show.
Deadline reports that FOX “seriously considered” Rescue HI-Surf‘s renewal “because of Wells’ involvement in the show, co-produced by Warner Bros. TV, where his John Wells Production is based, and Fox Entertainment Studios.”
Unfortunately, despite fitting into the network’s $3-4M an episode model, Deadline reports that “Rescue HI-Surf is believed to be at the high end of the range and among the network’s more expensive drama series — despite no big stars in the cast — because it films in Hawaii.”
Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment Studios co-produced the series. Kester, John Wells, and Daniele Nathanson are executive producers and co-showrunners. Erin Jontow (John Wells Productions) is also an executive producer.
