Murder in a Small Town Renewed for Season 2 at FOX
There are more mysteries to solve for Karl and Cassandra to solve!
TV Line reports that Murder in a Small Town, starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, has been renewed for Season 2 at FOX.
The freshman drama series premiered in September 2024, joining Rescue HI-Surf as some of the network’s new programming for the 2024/2025 season. Murder in a Small Town‘s eight-episode debut season concluded in November 2024.

The murder mystery series is based on the nine-book Karl Alberg series by L.R. Wright. It follows Sutherland’s Karl Alberg when he swaps “big-city police work” for “a quiet, coastal town.” Kreuk’s Cassandra Lee is the town’s local librarian, and throughout the series, she becomes Karl’s muse, foil, and romantic interest.
Karl discovers “that this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets and will need to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective in solving the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore,” per Murder in a Small Town‘s synopsis.
Mya Lowe, Savonna Spracklin, Aaron Douglas, and Fritzy-Klevans Destine recur in the series. The first season’s special guest stars include James Cromwell, Stana Katic, Paula Patton, and Noah Reid.
“We look forward to giving fans a second season of Karl Alberg’s unmatched expertise as a crime solver in Murder in a Small Town,” Brooke Bowman, executive vice president of drama programming & development for Fox Television Network, said, per Variety.

“We’ve enjoyed a terrific partnership with Sepia and Future Shack and our incredibly talented cast and crew and can’t wait to see what’s in store for our characters next season,” Bowman added.
TV Line reports that Murder in a Small Town was the network’s fifth-most watched non-sports program this fall, as it averaged 3.15 million total viewers.
“We couldn’t be more excited about our continued relationship with our terrific partners at Fox and Sepia,” Jeff Wachtel, CEO of Future Shack, said.
“In addition to the validation as a creative and popular success, getting a second season pickup confirms that Future Shack’s international model can create high-quality and cost-effective series,” Wachtel added.

Sepia Films produces Murder in a Small Town in association with FOX Entertainment and Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack Entertainment.
The series is produced in British Columbia.
Ian Weir serves as Murder in a Small Town‘s head writer and executive producer. Milan Cheylov executive produces and directs multiple episodes of the show. Nick Orchard (Soapbox Productions), Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia (Mojo Global Arts), and Jon Cotton are also executive producers.
