Superman & Lois Season 4: Everything We Know So Far
Superman & Lois fans, the wait is almost over!
The show will premiere its fourth and final season on Monday, October 7. So, we gathered all the information you need to know heading into this season. After all, a lot has changed between Superman & Lois Season 3 Episode 13, “What Kills You Makes You Stronger,” aired in June 2023.
Not only has The CW announced that the upcoming season would be the superhero show’s final season, but there have also been major casting shake-ups, massive details revealed about the plot, and so much more.
Here’s everything we know so far about Superman & Lois Season 4:
1. Premiere date change
As previously reported, Superman & Lois Season 4 was slated to begin with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, October 17, beginning at 8/7c on The CW.
The network announced at the end of August that the show will return even earlier — still with a two-hour season premiere. Now, Superman & Lois‘s fourth and final season will premiere on Monday, October 7, at 8/7c.
2. It’s a shortened season
The CW renewed the superhero series for a fourth season in June 2023. The news came days after Superman & Lois Season 3 Episode 11, “Complications,” aired.
This renewal news also came before The CW confirmed that the upcoming season would be the show’s last. Additionally, the network confirmed that Superman & Lois Season 4 would be a shortened, 10-episode run.

3. Only five main cast members are returning
Superman & Lois‘s final season also comes with major casting shake-ups.
The only returning series regulars are Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, and Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent.
Michael Cudlitz will also reprise his role as Lex Luthor, returning as a series regular instead of a recurring role like on Superman & Lois Season 3.
3. Multiple ensemble members will be missing
Unfortunately, that condensed line-up means that Superman & Lois‘s ensemble will look significantly different for its fourth and final season. As previously reported, the upcoming season will lose seven series regulars.
Those cast members not returning in the same capacity are Dylan Walsh as General Sam Lane, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cortez, Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons, Tayler Buck as Natalie Irons, and Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, executive producer Brett Fletcher told TV Line, “They all came back, and we made sure to give everyone who had been a regular on the series a closing out to their character arcs. They all get a real story…and you kind of know where they are into the future.”

4. Eric Valdez to appear as Kyle Cushing
Eric Valdez confirmed his return as Kyle Cushing in an Instagram post back in February. The actor marked the occasion with his “first trailer selfie” and shared how Kyle’s costume on Superman & Lois Season 4 will honor Valdez’s late father by wearing his “signature black boots.”
“Kyle’s gonna have a bit more pep in his step and maybe a few more dance moves this season,” Valdez added.
In September 2024, showrunner Brent Fletcher told TV Line that the final season’s fourth episode is Kyle and Chrissy-centric with “possibly the best montage the show has ever done.” A dance montage, perhaps?
4. Douglas Smith will play Jimmy Olsen
That swap in scenery means less of familiar characters and more of new ones, like the infamous Jimmy Olsen, who has yet to appear on Superman & Lois.
In March 2024, TV Line exclusively reported that Douglas Smith would play the 20-something photographer known as the “life of the party” at the Dailey Planet.
“Despite being work colleagues with Clark, he’s been unable to get him out of his ‘awkward’ shell. Unaware of Clark’s super-secret, Jimmy’s still determined to become his pal,” per the character’s description.
5. Yvonne Chapman is joining the series as Amanda McCoy
Kung Fu‘s Yvonne Chapman will join Superman & Lois as Amanda McCoy, Lex Luthor’s most trusted ally, already giving her a major edge in the final season. The DC Comics character runs LuthorCorp in Lex’s absence and is described as “intelligent, cunning, and loyal,” per Entertainment Weekly‘s exclusive.
“Little is known about her mysterious past, but she’s the only one in Luthor’s inner circle that he views as an equal, which makes her a massive threat to the Kents… and anyone else who stands in her way.”

6. Tom Cavanagh to appear on Superman & Lois series finale
Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 15, “Waiting for Superman,” confirmed the series doesn’t take place on the Arrowverse’s Earth-1. Still, plenty of Arrowverse actors appear as different iterations of their characters — Supergirl‘s Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch as the titular pair, Supergirl‘s Jenna Dewan as Lucy Lane, and Arrow‘s David Ramsey as John Diggle.
Superman & Lois Season 4 may continue that alt-Earth tradition with Tom Cavanagh, who starred as many versions of Harrison Wells on The Flash. At a fan convention in May 2024, Cavanagh shared he will be playing an unnamed character on the show’s series finale.
Per ComicBook, showrunner Todd Helbing confirmed at SDCC that the character is from the comics. Cavanagh isn’t new to the show, at least not behind the camera. He directed Superman & Lois Season 1 Episode 15, “Last Sons of Krypton,” and Superman & Lois Season 3 Episode 1, “Closer.”
7. More DC Comics characters to appear during the final season
Helbing also told ComicBook, “There’s a lot of cameos, more than any other season, I would say, this year.”
Helbing and co-showrunner Brent Fletcher then told TV Line for their Fall Preview that “there is a pretty significant character from the comics that we were actually surprised that we were able to use — and it’s pretty soon in the season.”
“You hear the name drop, then start hearing that name drop more, and then you see that person eventually,” Helbing and Fletcher added. With Jimmy Olsen and Amanda McCoy already confirmed, imagining who else may pop up is exciting.

8. The “Death of Superman” after the hero’s fight with Doomsday
Superman’s “death” at the hands of Bizzaro Doomsday is the biggest cliffhanger at the end of “What Kills You Makes You Stronger.” Despite that, showrunner Todd Helbing told TV Line that Hoechlin is “definitely still a presence” in every episode.
The showrunners also told Entertainment Weekly that the “Death of Superman” arc was something they wanted to explore on the show in its fourth season, but it wasn’t initially intended for the final season. The pair envisioned Superman & Lois running for at least seven seasons.
“It all worked out oddly in a really nice way. It’s just sad that it had to be the last season,” Helbing said.
9. The cast’s social media statements
In April 2024, Bitsie Tulloch shared a heartfelt message about her time as the intrepid Lois Lane on Instagram. “How lucky am I, to have been able to inhabit this woman’s bones, and brain, and heart, for the last 6 years, 4 of which were on #supermanandlois,” she wrote.
“Lois Lane has been an icon for as long as Superman has because of her fierceness, her work ethic, her determination, her playfulness, her commitment to finding the truth no matter the cost,” Tulloch continued.
Hoechlin shared his message on Instagram after SDCC, writing: “And thanks especially to all the fans that showed up to support this show — and not just this weekend, but for these past four years (eight if you count the last photo).”
“Filled with so much gratitude and love. Can’t wait for everyone to see Season 4 of #SupermanAndLois,” Hoechlin continued.

11. Showrunners’ statements about the final season
When the cancellation news dropped in November 2023, co-showrunner and executive producers Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher released a statement.
“While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created—on and off screen,” they shared.
“We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB, and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in.”
“We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois, and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history—Lex Luthor,” Helbing and Fletcher concluded.
12. Superman & Lois Season 4 Marks the End of DCTV and Superman on The CW
When Superman & Lois‘s 10-episode season ends, it will be the final DCTV show to air on the network. Coincidentally, this journey began with Tom Welling’s Clark Kent and, eventually, Erica Durance’s Lois Lane on Smallville on The WB in 2001. (It moved to The CW after its fifth season when The WB and UPN merged.)
In a perfect bookend, this era of superhero TV will end with Hoechlin and Tulloch’s iterations of the iconic characters.
In between, there has been Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, iZombie, Lucifer (Tom Ellis appeared on the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman, Stargirl, Naomi, and Gotham Knights.

13. Superman & Lois Season 4 episode titles revealed
The CW has yet to reveal any episode titles or descriptions for them, but Tulloch has shared a few on Instagram.
In January 2024, the actress posted the first page of the first episode’s script, revealing it’s titled “The End & The Beginning.”
KryptonSite confirms that the final season premiere was written by showrunner Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing and directed by Gregory Smith. The creative trio will team back up for the series finale, titled “It Went By So Fast,” which Tulloch shared on her Instagram in April.
14. Superman & Lois Season 4 description
The show’s final season will pick up right where Season 3 leaves off. The season description reads as follows:
Season four of SUPERMAN & LOIS picks up right where last season left off: with Superman and Luthor’s monster locked in a ferocious, moon-wrecking battle, as Clark fights for his life against the seemingly unstoppable creature. Back on the ground, General Lane struggles to stay alive after being kidnapped by Luthor’s henchmen, while Lois, Jordan, and Jonathan race against time to rescue him. But standing in their way is Lex Luthor himself, who has permanently moved to Smallville as the next step in his malicious plan to destroy Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Lana Lang uses her position as Mayor to fight back against Luthor’s schemes, a move which puts her in the sights of the most dangerous man in the world and threatens everything she holds dear. This includes her relationship with John Henry Irons, who must put his Ironworks plans on hold and rejoin the DOD, now that General Lane is missing. But they aren’t the only duo in trouble, as Chrissy Beppo (guest star Sofia Hasmik) and Kyle Cushing face an uphill battle of their own, with countless roadblocks that threaten to ruin their future together. Amid all the chaos, Sarah Cortez and Natalie Irons also join the fight against Luthor, while both facing impossible decisions about their paths in life. And as Clark’s battle with the terrifying monster continues, Lois, her boys, and the world must face an unthinkable possibility: what if Superman never returns?
