Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Trailer Teases Jesse Williams and Kali Rocha’s Return

Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 teases more drama and a few familiar faces when it premieres later this month.

Of course, a certain level of dramatics is expected after Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Episode 10, “Burn It Down,” leaves Grey Sloan Memorial severely understaffed.

This new promo, exclusively shared by People, picks up just after Catherine Fox fired Teddy Altman, Amelia Shepherd, and Owen Hunt after discovering their roles in Meredith Grey and Amelia’s Alzheimer’s research. 

Meredith, on the other hand, resigned when Catherine learned the truth. Grey’s Anatomy‘s promo teases that this fallout could lead to a lawsuit between the Fox Foundation and Meredith, but the latter doesn’t seem too bothered.

Meanwhile, Jackson Avery — Yes, Jesse Williams is back! — seems much more bothered. Jackson became the head of the Fox Foundation when he left Grey Sloan Memorial on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 15, “Tradition,” in 2021. 

Williams last reprised his role on Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Episode 5, “When I Get to the Border,” when Meredith needed some advice about moving to Boston.

But Jackson isn’t the only character returning to the show in the upcoming season. Kali Rocha is back as Dr. Sydney Heron — 17 years after her last appearance on Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 Episode 8, “Forever Young,” in 2007. 

Shondaland confirmed in August that Rocha is slated for a three-episode return, and this promo teases what’s in store for Dr. Heron.

Unsurprisingly, it involves a reunion with Dr. Miranda Bailey, who says Sydney’s back “in all her passive-aggressive glory.” To prove that some things — and people — never change, Sydney encourages the interns to “heal with love.”

Miranda Bailey is still going toe-to-toe with Catherine after the Season 20 finale.

In this new promo, which Shondaland shared, Catherine tells Bailey, “You think you’re God’s gift to this hospital? You’re just another doctor,” ending with Bailey slapping Catherine. So, there is plenty in store when Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 premieres on Thursday, September 26, at 10/9c on ABC.
