Dexter: Original Sin Sets December Premiere Date on Paramount+ with Showtime
Dexter returns to TV just in time for the holiday season on Paramount+ with Showtime’s prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.
Set in 1991 Miami, the new thriller series chronicles Dexter’s (Patrick Gibson) serial killer origin story “as he transitions from student to avenging killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness,” per its synopsis.
Dexter: Original Sin premieres early on Friday, December 13, on Paramount+ — for those who subscribe to Paramount+ with Showtime. The 10-episode Dexter prequel series will then make its on-air US debut on Sunday, December 15, on Paramount+ with Showtime’s cable network.

With the help of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), the series sees Dexter “adopt a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar.”
However, that plan becomes complicated when Dexter becomes a forensic intern at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The streamer released a first look at Dexter: Original Sin in July 2024. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Showtime announced that executive producer Michael C. Hall, who played Dexter in the original series, would reprise his role in the prequel series and Dexter: Resurrection, a new series set in the present day.
On Dexter: Original Sin, Hall narrates the inner voice of Gibson’s younger Dexter. The new 30-second teaser trailer sees that in action, with Hall saying, “I am a killer, but I wasn’t born this way. I was made — by my history, by the people around me. They say it takes a village to raise a killer.”
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said.
“While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well,” McCarthy added.
Dexter: Original Sin also stars Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The series is currently in production in Los Angeles.
The series is executive produced by Clyde Phillips and produced by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios.

Dexter: Original Sin‘s executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Robert Lloyd Lewis produces, and Micahel Lehmann serves as directing executive producer.
For Showtime Studios, the series is being creatively overseen by Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif with production supervised by Tara Power. Dexter: Original Sin is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
The original series premiered in 2006 and aired for eight seasons. Dexter: New Blood, a limited series set 10 years after Dexter‘s series finale, aired in 2021.
