Kate Herron and Briony Redman Join Forces to Pen a ‘Doctor Who’ Episode
Kate Herron and Briony Redman will co-write a Doctor Who adventure starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson as his companion, Ruby Sunday.
BBC announced the news, confirming that the episode will air once Gatwa takes over the TARDIS as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Doctor Who returns with three special episodes starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor in November 2023. Those episodes will also feature the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. Gatwa’s first episode in the coveted role is expected to air over the holiday season.

Herron and Briony have collaborated on other works, like the sci-fi Miss Universe and the acclaimed short film Smear. Their latest creative team-up will be this Doctor Who episode, about which no details are known.
“Clearly I can’t get enough of time travel. It is an absolute honour to write for Russell and Ncuti. We had so much fun and can’t wait for you all to see it,” Kate Herron said. Herron recently served as an executive producer and the director of Loki‘s debut season.
“As a big fan of Doctor Who and Russell T Davies, it’s been a dream to write on this show,” Briony Redman said.
This news comes a day after Doctor Who announced it had begun filming Gatwa’s second season as the Doctor. RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon is among the cast to appear on Doctor Who Season 14, Gatwa’s first in the role.

“This is when I absolutely love my job. Working with the stellar talents of Kate and Briony makes my whole world bigger and brighter, and a lot more fun,” Russell T Davies said.
“I was a huge fan of Loki and reached out to Kate to say so – she then introduced me to Briony, and it was all systems go! They’ve written a wonderful script which created unique challenges for cast and crew alike. The end result is gorgeous and thrilling and scary, and not like any other episode of Doctor Who,” Davies added.
Davies, who spearheaded the series’ revival in 2005 when Christopher Eccleston starred as the Doctor, returns to Doctor Who as its showrunner with the November specials.
As previously reported, Doctor Who will air exclusively on the BBC in the UK and Ireland, but Disney+ is the new exclusive home for the series outside the UK and Ireland.
