Doctor Who‘s showrunner, Russell T Davies, also released a statement about the latest cast addition: “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!”

“I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage,” Jinkx shared.

TV Line notes that Doctor Who will return this November with three special episodes celebrating the sci-fi show’s 60th anniversary.

As previously reported, those episodes will feature the return of David Tennant in the role of the Fourteenth Doctor, as well as Catherine Tate reprising her role as Donna Noble.

BBC reports that “Ncuti Gatwa’s first episode as the Fifteenth Doctor will then air over the festive period.”

It was announced in May last year that Sex Education‘s Ncuti Gatwa would take up the Doctor Who mantle.

While that episode’s exact premiere date has yet to be revealed, Doctor Who did reveal footage of Gatwa in the role in collaboration with an announcement about Disney+ being the long-running series’ new streaming home outside of the UK and Ireland.
