Gotham Knights Canceled by The CW After One Season

Gotham Knights, News

The CW has canceled Gotham Knights after one season.

More specifically, the freshman drama, based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, was canceled before its final season finished airing on the network.

Gotham Knights Season 1 Episode 13, “Night of the Owls,” will be the show’s series finale and air on Tuesday, June 27 at 9/8c on The CW.

Variety reports that the news about Gotham Knights comes after its notable absence in the press release announcing the renewal of All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois. The information about all three CW shows also comes after a prolonged limbo regarding their status on the network.

As previously reported, All American: Homecoming will return for a 13-episode third season, and Superman & Lois will return for a 10-episode fourth season.

“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW,” Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network, commented about the renewals.

“These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”

As Deadline reports, “Gotham Knights has been a respectable ratings performer and, under different circumstances, could’ve made it to a second season but, with the business model of the CW changing under its new ownership, only a handful of highly rated (by CW standards) existing scripted series could make the cut.”

With Gotham Knights‘ cancellation, only four returning shows will air on The CW during its seven-night prime-time 2023/2024 schedule.

All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois join All American, which was renewed for Season 6 in January, and Walker, which was renewed for Season 4 in May.

The series envisions a world in which Batman is dead and his adopted son Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan, and several of Batman’s enemies’ children are framed for Bruce Wayne’s murder.

Television, Gotham Knights stars Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, and Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley. Supernatural‘s Misha Collins stars in the series as District Attorney Harvey Dent.

Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams wrote the series, with Fiveash and Stoteraux as showrunners. Fiveash and Stoteraux executive produce Gotham Knights alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman.

Abrams also serves as co-executive producer. Danny Cannon directed and served as an executive producer on the pilot, along with David Madden.

The series returns with Gotham Knights Season 1 Episode 12, “City of Owls,” on Tuesday, June 20, at 9/8c on The CW.

Gotham Knights airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on The CW.
