Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Tom
Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 5, “Tom,” looks back at the events surrounding Weir’s frame job and the explosion of his building and delivers some fantastic twists in the process. Unfortunately, it isn’t enough to make this a good episode.
This is the first episode in a while where we know something is about to be revealed, but we just aren’t sure what exactly. For all the other faults of the episode, Rabbit Hole does handle the unraveling of the truth about Weir’s team well.
Between Madi’s investigation, the flashbacks, and Ben’s side of the story, we’re able to follow the same mystery from multiple angles, even though we don’t initially know that Ben’s story about the intern will be connected to Weir’s missing team.

This helps give us a much better picture as to what happened, and it’s something that we wouldn’t have solely been able to get through Ben’s confession or Madi’s investigation.
The flashbacks also help us get to know Weir’s team a bit better, making us care a little more about them. It’s not enough to make their deaths feel devastating, but the reveal is certainly more shocking than it would’ve been if we just had Madi finding their bodies.
Oh Hailey, Hailey, Hailey. The show doesn’t quite know what to do with you.

I can’t decide if her declaring that she stayed for Weir is just an awful choice on the show’s end, or if this is Hailey’s poor attempt at being a spy and manipulating him. Neither option is good, but the better option is that she was trying to manipulate him.
If that’s what’s happening, then it’s just Hailey being bad at her job. If she’s being serious, then the show has fumbled this potential relationship because her declaration comes out of nowhere, and you can’t help but laugh.
All they’ve really had is Weir giving her a weird compliment noting that she’s attractive. Other than that, there’s their “date” on Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 1, “Pilot,” and Weir demonstrated that he knew it was a setup all along, so we can’t take any of their banter or sparks during that date as legitimate on his end.

Also, a “romance” of this caliber isn’t enough to justify staying with him during this extremely dangerous situation.
They’ve been shot at and are currently being targeted by a mysterious mastermind. Hailey’s got a lot of crypto to help her survive somewhat off the grid. If I were her, I’d have left days ago. Give him your number, Hailey, and have him call you when all this is over.
Rabbit Hole is proving to be a disappointment with each passing episode. The mystery itself has promise, but it’s not quite coming together. There are only three episodes left, and while it’s doubtful these final episodes can save the show, maybe they can at least give us a decent ending.
Stray Thoughts
- I like that the intern is more involved than we initially suspected.
- Ed Homm continues to be an absolute delight and some much-needed comic relief.
- I would’ve immediately been freaked out if the woman who knocked on my door followed me inside my home without my permission.
