After an intense cliffhanger, Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 1, “Count the Losses,” picks up right where we left off, with a sudden fire at Will’s apartment building that leaves some of our favorite characters in serious danger.

Chicago Med stars Nick Gehlfuss and Jessy Schram spoke with reporters about what to expect from the season premiere and hinted that we might even see another familiar face on the episode. (Watch the video below.)

“We start off right where we left off at the end of last season, and it’s a time for a classic crossover moment,” Gehlfuss began.

“You’ll see some familiar faces, I’m sure. And you’ll see me do something I’ve never done before, as a character, which was a lot of fun,” he said. “[It] may come in the form of a stunt, who knows?”

“Obviously, we left last season with Will and Hannah saying that they’re gonna start over,” Gehlfuss continued. “In the premiere, let’s just say Hannah has some complications from the fire, and Will is taking a lot of guilt because of that. And of course, that’s stirring up a lot of their past. Even though they are set out to start over and give each other a clean slate, it makes that really complicated.”

“[Hannah] is learning that her past affects her even though she’s feeling healthy in herself, in her mental and physical state. The past usually catches up to you, and we’ve been seeing that a lot with her battling Archer a lot, with the stigma that’s been following her. And really not just Archer, with everybody at the hospital,” Schram said.

“I’m excited for everything to unfold. With this season, what’s really fun with Hannah is we’re taking her through — you know there’s this stigma, there’s the addiction that follows her, there’s everything that happens with the fire and what she needs to personally and physically get over. And we get to see Hannah as Hannah, not just Hannah the addict,” Schram explained.

“It’s a very active season to start with,” Schram added. “People are together a lot more than they have been in the past. We’ve got the crossovers going. It’s a very active season that I think true fans are really going to enjoy.”

Chicago Med returns Wednesday, September 21st at 8/7c on NBC.
