Chicago P.D Review: Memory (Season 9 Episode 20)
Chicago P.D Season 9 Episode 20, “Memory,” connects its case to a topic that has been developing throughout the season. Once again the audience dives into Kim’s journey as a mom as she figures out whether or not to fully let Adam in again.
Adam and Kim’s relationship is a fan favorite, so viewers want to push her in that direction but she is not quite ready yet.

On every episode of Chicago P.D, one or more of the detectives seems to relate on a personal level to the case, whether they like to admit it or not. This time it was Kim’s turn once more with the title of the episode itself, “Memory,” connecting directly to her personal life.
As she tries to protect her daughter from remembering what happened to her when she was kidnapped, fans begin to question if it isn’t Kim who is actually struggling. Is she over the kidnap? Can she protect her child?
But they are not the only ones asking these questions. When it is time for her to face the perp one-on-one, he asks her if she is a good mother, striking a nerve. Although she cannot answer it herself yet, viewers know she is indeed a good mother who continues to put her child first at all times.

However, we know Kim’s questioning does not stop at motherhood. She continues to doubt whether or not her relationship with Adam will work. Once again, she is seen pushing him away, choosing to move in alone to the apartment they had put a deposit down.
Adam surprises her by telling her he will buy his father’s home to have a place where Makayla can create memories of her own. Memories that will help her get over the kidnapping.
“Will they, won’t they” is always in the air when it comes to this ship. At work, they are the perfect team.
They understand each other, can help when needed, and know how to handle an interrogation room perfectly. Could that be replicated in their love life? What is truly stopping Kim from taking the next step?

Throughout its nine seasons, Chicago P.D has allowed fans to get invested in police cases and in the team’s personal lives. Usually, everyone gets their 42 minutes of fame with dedicated episodes. But where has Hank Voight been this season?
It seems like the lead Sergeant has taken a step back and is handling the cases from the shadows. Although he is present in every episode, his screen time seems to have lowered. Other detectives are taking the lead.
Will this have its repercussions on the show? Hank has allowed everyone on the team to take the lead, handle the investigations, and report back to him. Sometimes he even finds out what is going on after the team has made choices without consulting him first.
Chicago P.D Season 9 finale will air May 25 at 10/9c on NBC. This means there are two episodes left to wrap up some of the season’s loose ends.
