Tony Dalton Shares One of His Favorite Scenes from ‘Better Call Saul’ [Interview]

Lalo Salamanca isn’t your average villain, and that’s one of Tony Dalton’s favorite things about playing the character.

We spoke with Dalton during PaleyFest ahead of the Better Call Saul panel about what he’s loved about portraying Lalo, one of his favorite scenes, and what we can expect from him in the final season of the series. (You can watch the full video below.)

“He’s sort of a very charming kind of guy, which was fun because usually, sometimes, when you have to play somebody who’s like you said, a villain, it comes with this sort of seriousness,” Dalton began.

“The way that he’s written and the way that it ended up unfolding, it just ended up being such a charming and fun guy to be around and to see on screen.”

“It was fun to be able to throw in a smile once in a while before you kill somebody, you know?” he laughed.

For Dalton, his favorite scene from Better Caul Saul so far is one that wound up being pivotal for the series. It’s when Lalo arrives at Jimmy’s apartment to ask him to tell the story of what happened with the money (after he had traveled through the desert with Mike).

“That was fun because we really rehearsed it, and I think it ended up being a good scene. But also just the emotional baggage that’s involved in it, and what happens to the characters. Each one after that — everything changes,” he said.

Dalton also hinted at what’s to come for Lalo in the final season.

“After everything that happened in the last episode of Season 5, he’s pissed. He’s very pissed. He’s not happy and he’s on a warpath.”
