FBI Review: Gone Baby Gone (Season 4 Episode 7)
On FBI Season 4 Episode 7, “Gone Baby Gone,” Maggie makes a heartbreaking mistake while investigating the case of a missing little girl.
This episode is heavy, but it is shown in a beautiful way as both Maggie and our victim-turned-suspect explore the hardships that come with loving someone with an addiction. Fortunately for Maggie, despite her sister overdosing, she’s technically okay when she wakes up.
We can circle back to my frustrations with “Gone Baby Gone,” but this case is solid when looking at the past six episodes.

Season four of FBI has been its weakest, but this case and this writing show promise moving forward. The best episodes are the ones surrounding people we know and care about.
There are high stakes whenever a child is involved, but to have that back to back as Maggie tries to take care of her sister makes it that much more nerve-wracking.
The worst part is that they both can’t win. Maggie and Lucia, the taken little girl, cannot both come out of this unscathed. And, because Lucia is a child, Maggie is the one forced to break.
Jubal lets Maggie know where she’s screwed up, what the results are, and why it can never happen again, and Maggie doesn’t have much left in her. Something wonderful about this episode is that the show never implies that Maggie is right in what she does.
There aren’t any cringe moments with Maggie being unfocused, just a small discussion that she’s able to bounce off of OA. The writers never over-emphasize that Maggie shouldn’t be in the field.

Her conversation with OA is ultimately why I’m upset that it is Jubal to find Maggie at the end of the episode, and not OA. Yes, Jubal knows addiction, but OA knows Maggie.
OA finds out that Erin has overdosed and with zero hesitation in his voice, tells Maggie to go. OA knows how important this is, he knows what this means to Maggie.
And look, I’m the first person to be all for male/female friendships. (Well, maybe not the first, but you know what I mean.)
OA and Maggie as friends would be great! It would be cool! However, there’s too much damn chemistry between Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki for CBS to let it go to waste.

Speaking of, Missy Peregrym on “Gone Baby Gone” is just fantastic. She’s always on her A-game playing Maggie, but this episode especially. Every worried expression that crossed her face has me uneasy.
The strength that comes with Maggie telling Erin she can’t be in her life as someone always worried, always anxious, willing to risk her job, is unimaginable.
Missy Peregrym reminds us in this episode that she’s not just an actor playing an FBI agent — she’s an actor playing a woman, a sister, a friend.
Overall, and especially compared to the last installment, this episode is a breath of fresh air amongst a lineup of doozies. Let’s hope the rest of the season can follow.
Stray Thoughts:
- “He was eating eggs at the time of the abduction” is not only the funniest alibi I’ve ever heard, but it also isn’t true. Double whammy!
- OA with children… I would like to see it more often, please.
- OA is the only person on the team to know about Erin except for Jubal… Siri, play “It’s Nice to Have a Friend” by Taylor Swift.
