15 TV Ships That Deserve to Sail

9-1-1, Dead to Me, Evil, FBI, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law and Order: Organized Crime, Loki, Lucifer, Sex Education, Stranger Things, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Morning Show

We all love a good slow burn — the longing looks, the accidental hand touches, the subtle gestures that show how much they care without the characters actually saying it. However, sometimes the slow burn takes too long, or the couple has so much chemistry we want them together now.

Both of these things are the case when it comes to the couples on this list. We’ve selected the couples that may have had some flirtations in the past, but they haven’t made it official. It’s about time they do.

They deserve to try it out, and then we’ll see where it goes!

Here are our picks for 15 TV ships that deserve to sail:

1. Maeve and Otis (Sex Education)
maeveotis
Asa Butterfield and Emma Mackey — Sex Education

Maeve and Otis have had a fun will they-won’t they situation going on for a few seasons now, and we thought we would see it end in a they-will direction, but then we all, unfortunately, saw how that ended.

Maeve and Otis deserve to finally be together, and hopefully, it happens on Sex Education Season 3! They’ve fought for each other in more ways than one and they deserve to be happy together with no secrets.

2. Greta and Riley (Genera+ion)
Genera+ion Season 1 Episode 13
Riley talks with Greta, Pablo shows up. (Warrick Page/HBO)

In true teenage love fashion, Riley and Greta got off to a bit of a bumpy start. Miscommunication, mistakes they can’t take back, the normal problems a couple faces at the beginning of a TV show.

When we last saw the pair, they’d confessed their love to each other in a very open raw way. Though they both have their faults, when they’re together, they’re better. Hopefully, if we get a Generation Season 2, they can be together without too many roadblocks.

3. EJ and Gina (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series)
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2 Episode 8
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – “Most Likely To” (Disney+ / Fred Hayes)

The thing about EJ and Gina is that they’re perfect together. They’re both extremely passionate and loyal, and they know what it feels like to be an outcast for various reasons.

They’ve had to go through other crushes, breakups, and distance before they found each other, but now that they have, they deserve to have the best love story.

Because we know it’ll be the best love story on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

4. Maggie and OA (FBI)
FBI Season 3 Episode 14, "Trigger Effect"
FBI- Pictured (l-r) Zeeko Zaki as Special Agent Omar Adom ‘OA’ Zidan and Missy Peregrym as Special Agent Maggie Bell Photo: Michael Parmelee/ ©2021 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Talk about a slow burn. This ship is moving so slow, we aren’t even sure if it’ll depart from the dock.

Are the flirty moments and the jealousy of significant others fueled by romance or just a very strong partnership?

Regardless, the way they put themselves on the line for each other every day at work — and outside of work — is admirable and we should be able to see them be together romantically.

5. Ted and Rebecca (Ted Lasso)
Ted Lasso
Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham in “Ted Lasso.”

Look, I’m not saying Ted should be getting into a relationship right after his divorce, but the build-up? It’s fantastic, especially with Ted Lasso Season 2 Episode 1, “Goodbye Earl,” establishing Ted into Rebecca’s love life.

Over the course of season one of Ted Lasso, we saw Ted and Rebecca actually make themselves better people, because of, or in some instances, for the other person.

Accountability, respect, and communication are all present in their friendship (flirtship), so why not let them fall in love too?

6. David and Kristen (Evil)
Evil CBS Room 320
“Room 320” – Pictured (L-R) Katja Herbers as Kristen Bouchard and Mike Colter as David Acosta Photo: Gail Schulman/CBS ©2019 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved

The sexual tension between David and Kristen is absolutely bonkers. I almost can’t believe they haven’t gotten together yet.

No, I haven’t forgotten that Kristen is still married, I just love to act like she’s not, because everything in this ship (and frankly, the show) would be much better if she and Andy were divorced.

David and Kristen face literal demons together on Evil. And though this will probably never happen given David’s job, but I’ll hold out hope till the very end.

7. Jen and Judy (Dead to Me)
Dead to Me Season 2 - Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini (Courtesy of Netflix)

Girlfriends who kill people together stay together.

Now that Jen and Judy have hidden a body together, and now that they’re both single again, I think we deserve to see them go on a real date, not just getting drunk and waking up in the same bed after hiding said body.

Watching their friendship develop into a relationship would be a fantastic end to Dead to Me.

8. Elise and Scola (FBI)
Liar’s Poker FBI
Pictured (L-R) Vedette Lim as Elise Taylor and John Boyd as Special Agent Stuart Scola. Photo: Michael Parmelee/ CBS 2020 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Though we haven’t seen too much of these two characters together, we did see Scola talking to Elise as she had a bomb around her neck.

The perfect setting for a first date, am I right?

Then, at the end of that episode, they agreed to go out sometime, and it’s still unclear whether that was supposed to be romantic or platonic. Hopefully, on FBI Season 4, they allow this couple to actually be together, and not just share looks at a press conference.

9. Bradley and Cory (The Morning Show)
The Morning Show Season 1 Episode 6, "The Pendulum Swings"
Apple TV+. Reese Witherspoon

Bradley and Cory are very new to UBA Network, and for them to come in at almost the same time fits so well with their relationship.

They’re growing with each other as they grow with the network. Literally, too, as they worked together to basically take down the network on The Morning Show Season 1.

They bounce off of each other well, in the sense that of course, they get on each other’s nerves, but they still care about each other despite it.

10. Loki and Mobius (Loki)
Owen Wilson and Tom Hiddleston in Loki
Owen Wilson (left) and Tom Hiddleston (right) star in Marvel’s ‘Loki’ from Disney+

With Loki officially coming out as bisexual in the TV series Loki, we deserve to see him be with the man he was flirting with all season!

Though if Loki were with a woman he wouldn’t be any less bisexual, this opportunity is almost too perfect for Marvel to give up. They have great chemistry, they work well together, and the ship is just fun.

Plus now that Mobius doesn’t even know who Loki is, we can dive right into the trope of “finding each other in any universe/timeline.”

11. Midge and Lenny (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
mrs-maisel-outfit-9
Luke Kirby and Rachel Brosnahan “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

My goodness, this ship. Lenny Bruce, played by Luke Kirby, is based on the real comic who obviously never dated Midge Maisel, but that’s why we have fictional television like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!

These two make the most sense to be together, not to mention their palpable chemistry that truly just doesn’t quit no matter what the situation.

Midge and Lenny know each other best, they can support each other best, and in all honesty, it seems like they can love each other best. After what they’ve been through separately, they deserve so much to be together.

12. Buck and Eddie (9-1-1)
9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 15 - Oliver Stark as Evan 'Buck' Buckley and Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz

Buck and Eddie could be the perfect couple if we let them.

They’re there for each other, they call each other family, Buck is practically helping raise Eddie’s son. They speak to each other and about each other as if they practically live together.

These two deserve to be a couple because they’re sometimes so in sync and vulnerable with each other that it’s kind of shocking that they’re not already a couple.

13. Linda and Maze (Lucifer)
maze and linda lucifer
Lesley-Ann Brandt and Rachael Harris as Maze and Linda in Lucifer.

Linda and Maze are two people I didn’t think I’d enjoy together, and then I watched Lucifer, and wow they are so good.

Their back and forth is what makes the relationship feel like it should be something more, and Linda and Maze always helping each other out of sticky situations — whether mentally or physically — are the very pillars of a strong relationship.

These two deserve the love story they, and especially Maze, have been looking for.

14. Olivia and Elliot (Law and Order: SVU & Law and Order: Organized Crime)
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 1 Episode 8, "Forget It, Jake; It's Chinatown"

I want everyone to know that I have friends younger than Olivia and Elliot’s relationship.

Elliot and Olivia know each other better than anyone else on the entire planet. They’ve been together through their highest highs and their lowest lows. They rely on each other in their jobs, yes, but they also see a bigger picture of relying on each other: being there for each other as something possibly more than just a friend.

They would do absolutely anything for each other and they deserve to be fully open, themselves, and in love with each other, finally.

15. Joyce and Hopper (Stranger Things)
Stranger Things Season 3

Do I even have to explain this one? They’ve been pining after each other since high school! Just let them kiss already, Stranger Things!

Joyce and Hopper have been through marriages, divorces, children, death, even fighting the Demogorgon. And while they haven’t necessarily done all of this together, they still found their way back to each other.

If any couple deserves to be together, it’s Joyce and Hopper.

I have absolutely no idea whether or not any of these couples will get together, and if they do, even stay together, but don’t they at least deserve a fighting chance? Let them try it out and then we’ll see where it goes!

Hopefully, in the upcoming seasons of each show, we get to witness at least some of these couples getting their love stories. Which ships would you love to see set sail? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

  • Yes yes yes to Otis and Maeve, Riley and Greta! But Judy and Jen are perfect as friends! And I’m happy Judy’s sexuality was explored. I really hope Michelle comes back into the picture.
