‘Killing Eve’ Will End With Season 4, AMC Mulling Spinoff Ideas
- Critically acclaimed thriller Killing Eve is set to end with its upcoming Season 4.
- With production on the eight-episode final season reportedly starting in the Summer, AMC announced that alongside Sid Gentle Films Ltd. it is looking to “develop a number of potential spinoff ideas to extend the show’s iconic universe.”
- “Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve’s remarkable mind soon,” star Sandra Oh said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for all cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season.”
- “Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported us throughout and come along for the ride. Although all good things come to an end, it’s not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!”
- The first three seasons of Killing Eve are streaming on AMC+.
Kingsley Ben-Adir Joins ‘Secret Invasion’
- On the heels of his star-making turn in One Night in Miami, Kingsley Ben-Adir has booked his next high-profile role. Variety reports the actor is joining the Marvel Studios Disney+ series Secret Invasion.
- Samuel L. Jackson once again plays Nick Fury, and Ben Mendelsohn returns as Talos, as the pair are engrossed in a Skrull invasion.
- As usual, there are no details on Ben-Adir’s character, but he’s rumored to be playing the villain.
- Ben-Adir has received nods for his performance as Malcom X in One Night in Miami, including a SAG Award nomination for Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and a BAFTA nomination for the EE Rising Star Award.
- One Night in Miami is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
HBO Developing ‘A Time to Kill’ Sequel as Limited Series, Matthew McConaughey Negotiating Return
- Deadline reports that its sources say HBO is developing a limited series based on the John Grisham novel “A Time for Mercy,” a follow up to “A Time to Kill.”
- A Time to Kill was made into a 1996 film that featured Matthew McConaughey in the star-making role of young attorney Jake Brigance.
- The actor is reportedly in final negotiations to reprise the role for an eight to ten-episode series.
- In “‘A Time for Mercy’ Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Brigance’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career and the safety of his family on the line.”
- HBO isn’t commenting on the possible project, however, with things in the very early stage of development, there are no writers or directors currently attached.
‘Outlander’ Renewed for Season 7
- Starz wants even more of the Fraser clan. The network has given an early Season 7 renewal to its hit series Outlander, per Variety.
- With Season 6 currently in production, Season 7 is expected to adapt Diana Gabaldon’s seventh Outlander book “An Echo in the Bone.”
- Though the show can be unpredictable, as of this writing, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin are expected back.
- “We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic ‘Outlander’ journey,” said Executive Producer Matthew B. Roberts. “We can’t wait to get into the writer’s room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story.”
Young Cat Grant Introduced in Final Season of ‘Supergirl’
- Good news for fans hoping Cat Grant shows up in Supergirl’s final season. But there’s a catch.
- Entertainment Weekly reports, a young version of the future media mogul will appear in two episodes of Season 6.
- Supergirl Season 6 Episode 5, “Prom Night,” and Supergirl Season 6 Episode 6 “Prom Again!” will feature Eliza Helm as CJ Grant, “eager to step out of Lois Lane’s shadow and out from under her boss, Perry White’s thumb, Cat chases a story to Kara’s hometown of Midvale. This lead won’t go as planned, but it will put her on the trajectory toward the Media Powerhouse we know and love as Cat Grant.”
- The series also released the official synopsis for its season premiere.
- Per CBR, Supergirl Season 6 Episode 1 “Rebirth:” As Brainiac (Jesse Rath) lays close to death after trying to stop Lex (Jon Cryer), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and team soar in to save him, engaging in an epic battle with Gamenmae (guest star Cara Buono). After beating Leviathan, Supergirl turn her attention to Lex (Jon Cryer) who has used the Obsidian platform to brainwash half the world to love him and follow him at all costs, no matter what horrible things he does. Knowing how dangerous this makes her brother, Lena (Katie McGrath) enlists the entire team – Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood), Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Kelly (Azie Tesfair) and Braniac – to help, but Supergirl realizes that the only way to truly stop Lex is to sacrifice herself.
- Supergirl premieres Tuesday, March 30 at 9/8c on The CW.
Syfy Renews ‘Resident Alien’ for Season 2
- Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle will have to spend more time on Earth, as Syfy has given a Season 2 renewal to Resident Alien, per TVLine.
- Syfy reports that the series is the “most-watched new cable drama in the last year in total viewers.” To date, its Season 1 premiere has 9.3 million total viewers on all NBCU platforms.
- “The appeal of this show transcended the sci-fi genre in a way that enabled us to bring in a broader audience,” Lisa Katz, NBCUniversal’s President of Scripted Content told TVLine. ”And as the series continues we hope to encourage more and more fans to discover Harry’s very particular perspective on humans.”
- Resident Alien airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on Syfy, with the Season 1 finale airing Wednesday, March 31 at 10/9c.
Spectrum Originals Books Lena Headey to Star in ‘Beacon 23’
- Lena Headey is going to the end of the universe to star in Spectrum Originals and AMC Networks’ adaptation of Beacon 23, per TVLine.
- The series is based on Hugh Howey’s novel and features beacon-keeper Halan trying to figure out if he can trust the mysterious Aster, played by Headey.
- Aster’s “ability to disguise her agenda and motives could make her a formidable opponent,” reads the official description.
- The actress will executive produce alongside creator/showrunner Zak Penn. The series will be exclusive to Spectrum for nine months, then air on AMC Networks.
- Headey is best known for her iconic role of Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones. During the series’ eight seasons, she earned five Emmy nominations, while inspiring countless memes and quotes.
- “Lena Headey was a wonderful, versatile actress before she gave one of the defining performances in television history. So, as they say, ‘no pressure,’” Penn said in a statement. “I’m thankful to all the people making this show possible, they just keep delivering beyond my expectations.”
‘Naomi’ Finds its Lead Hero in Kaci Walfall
- The CW’s latest DC Comics pilot Naomi has cast Kaci Walfall as its titular hero, per Variety.
- Naomi is “an effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents. Popular with all the kids in her military town, Naomi is unafraid to embrace her AP-student, comic book–loving nerdiness. After a supernatural event leads to the discovery of her powers within, Naomi pursues her hidden destiny.”
- Three actors also joined the project in series regular roles.
- Alexander Wraith will play Dee, the owner of a tattoo parlor, who seems to know more than he’s telling about the supernatural event.
- Cranston Johnson is Zumbade, “the mysterious owner of a local used car lot.”
- Camila Moreno plays Lourdes, “a young woman who works in a vintage collectible shop” and has an “unrequited crush on Naomi.”
- Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship are writing and directing the pilot.
