One Day at a Time is Heading to CBS: Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the Broadcast Debut

Features, One Day at a Time

The Alvarez family is returning to our screens in a big way this month.

One Day at a Time will make its broadcast debut Monday, October 12th on CBS. (UPDATED on October 5th: this is a date change.)

The critically acclaimed sitcom, which is inspired by Norman Lear’s 1975 sitcom of the same name, aired for three seasons on Netflix as a Netflix original series.

After being canceled, the series thankfully found a new home on Pop TV for Season 4. Now more viewers are about to have the chance to see the latest season, as all episodes of One Day at a Time Season 4 will be airing on CBS.

The network will air back-to-back episodes on Mondays at 9/8c beginning October 12th.

The network debut comes 45 years after the debut of the original series, which also aired on CBS.

“45 years ago, I was delighted to premiere a series on CBS called One Day at a Time,” said executive producer Norman Lear in a statement. “The show was a reflection of strong family values and a beautiful demonstration of how families come in all forms with love and humor at the center. I am so thrilled to have our reimagined One Day at a Time – this time Latinx and with Mike Royce and Gloria Calderón Kellett at the helm – and air in that same time slot this coming Monday evening. It is a full circle moment, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The times have changed, obviously the cast has changed, but the values remain the same – love and family make everything worthwhile.”

This is also a crucial moment when it comes to the future of the series.

“We really want to get the word out that if people want more One Day at a Time, the best shot is a home at CBS where we could make the show for many more years and have a proper broadcast home,” Gloria Calderón Kellett said recently in an interview with Tell-Tale TV.

One Day at a Time Season 4 was unfortunately cut short earlier this year. “The rest of Season 4 is not going to happen. Our set is down,” Calderón Kellett stated in the interview. “What we shot of Season 4 is our Season 4. So now it’s determining whether or not we get a Season 5. So we need to do well on CBS to get a Season 5.”

One Day at a Time stars Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, and Stephen Tobolosky.
