TV News Wrap-Up: Colton Haynes Returns to ‘Arrow,’ ‘Claws’ Renewed, ‘Big Mouth’ Spin-Off Announced
The avalanche of new and returning shows continues as we enter October.
But just because we’re continuing to wade further into Fall TV, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of news for new shows heading our way.
Whether it’s good or bad news, it’s all exciting. Take a look at some of the highlights from television news this week below.

TNT is preparing Desna and her Claws crew for a final goodbye. According to IndieWire, Claws has been renewed for fourth and final season. The series follows Desna (played by Niecy Nash) as the owner of a nail salon in Palmetto, Florida, and soon finds herself running more than just the salon. Claws is one of the remaining dramas on the cable network.
Netflix is also saying a goodbye of its own, to the students of Winchester University. According to Deadline, Dear White People will be returning to the streamer for a fourth and final season in 2020. The series, created by Justin Simien, is an adaptation of the movie and follows the lives of various students at the fictional Ivy League.
While we’ll be saying goodbye to one Florida-based show, another will be coming back for more. According to Variety, POP has renewed Florida Girls for a second season! The half-hour single-camera comedy follows the lives of a group of young women living below the poverty line in Clearwater, Florida.

The Rookie is adding another member to the force. Once Upon a Time and Chicago Med alum Mekia Cox joins the cast as series regular. According to TVLine, Cox will be playing Nyla Harper, a former LAPD detective and Nolan’s current training officer.

We haven’t seen the last of Arrow‘s Roy Harper. According to Entertainment Weekly, Colton Haynes will be returning to Arrow and is set to recur in the final season. When we last saw Roy at the end of Arrow Season 7, he was helping Oliver and Felicity’s children, William and Mia, and Lyla and Diggle’s son, Connor, find answers (and Felicity) in 2040.
Leigh Bardugo’s TV adaptation of her fantasy trilogy has found its cast. According to TVGuide, among those joining the cast of the fantasy drama are Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Orestev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, Sujaya Dasguptato as Zoya Nazyalensky, Danielle Galligan as Nina Zenik, Daisy Head as Genya Safin, and Simon Sears as Ivan.

A Grey’s Anatomy doctor is heading to Hulu. According to Deadline, Jesse Williams is set for a recurring role on the upcoming Hulu series, Little Fires Everywhere. The series is an adaptation of the novel by the same name from author, Celeste Ng. The Grey’s star will play Joe Ryan, a “wealthy Wall Streeter who for years has struggled to conceive. Joe and his wife, Madeline, turn to an unlikely source to help start their family.”
Snowpiercer has had a tumultuous pre-premiere journey, from development to pick up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the TV adaptation of the 2013 film, will be making its 2020 debut on the original network it was set for, TNT. The series takes place 7 years after the Earth becomes a “frozen wasteland” and looks at what’s left of humanity. There is no set premiere date, but it is set to debut sometime in spring 2020.
We have our first look at His Dark Materials. HBO released a trailer this week, giving a first look at the world of the TV adaptation of author Philip Pullman’s fictionalized, fantastical world. The series stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. His Dark Materials debuts Monday, November 4 on HBO.
Big Mouth spin-off, Human Resources, from the creators of the critical favorite, has been ordered at Netflix. According to the Deadline, the workplace comedy will focus on the world of the monsters.
