Killjoys Review: Don’t Stop Beweaving (Season 5 Episode 8)
On Killjoys Season 5 Episode 8, “Don’t Stop Beweaving,” Zeph goes home again, with Dutch in tow, and we catch a glimpse of the place and the people who raised Zeph.
It’s so great to really get to see the world Zeph grew up in. We’ve spent time getting to know how Dutch was raised, and we’ve taken a trip home with the Jaqobis. It’s Zeph’s turn.
We learn a lot about her during her trip home, but what’s more satisfying is focusing on the fact that family doesn’t have to be blood. Sometimes, family is make up of who you find along the way, and it doesn’t make that family any less than your blood. Killjoys is all about the beauty of a found family.

What else is there to do before battling The Lady? Play a round of laser tag, of course.
It is a little silly that D’av and Johnny are off trying to test whether or not some prisoners can be trusted to fight with them with a game of capture the flag. Yes, a test run is definitely needed before signing up the prisoners for the fight, but this is an unusual way to do so.
However, this is Johnny and D’av we’re talking about. Why not do some necessary test runs in a totally fun way and add in some brotherly competition?
D’av: I just want to make sure you get what you deserve.
Johnny: A date with a lesbian embezzler?
D’av: Love, asshole.
However, this storyline is the weaker of the hour. It’s hard to get invested in this, especially once the murder happens and the pointing of the fingers begins. It doesn’t hold your attention like Zeph’s trip home does.
When is Khlyen releasing all his stories in audiobook format? I need them. Do we think he comes up with these stories on the spot, or does he simply have a wealth of stories just waiting for the perfect moment to be told?
The Lady and Khlyen have such a strange dynamic, and that’s putting it lightly. She owns up to wanting him as a father figure, but when she promises him a galaxy, it doesn’t give off a father/daughter vibe (at least to me).
Khlyen: When the nights were long and the days were deep, there lived a star who shined brighter than all her sisters in the sky, but she was restless. For millennia, she had watched humans from above, but now, being curious, she took their shape to learn what it was to feel. The star walked along humans for so long she forgot she wasn’t one of them, and when her star sisters mocked her for this, she killed the humans to prove that she was still as cold and bright as they were. When she returned to the sky, she missed her human friends, having learned at last what it is to feel.
It feels more romantic, which is disturbing on so many levels. It’s hard to fully understand The Lady at times, but it is interesting to see her in the form of a young girl wanting nothing more than love. It is an interesting contrast to the big bad that everyone else is preparing to battle.
Khlyen is most likely making the best of a bad situation, but I’d like to hope that when the time comes, he will make a move against The Lady. It would be great if this happens before he learns Dutch and Aneela are still alive, but it will probably happen after the fact.
I never thought I would see the day where I was anxiously waiting for Dutch and Khlyen to be reunited. He is going to be so happy to see that she’s still alive.
Khlyen: Yala’s dead.
Turin: Never sticks. Family trait.
We have to discuss the last supper callback to Killjoys Season 3 Episode 10, “Wargasm.”
It is a sweet moment and a nice parallel. Strangely enough, “Wargasm” is when Dutch and Aneela meet face to face, and Dutch learns about The Lady for the first time. It’s hard to imagine a time before The Lady.
This dinner also signifies that this will be the last peaceful moment (most likely) that the team will have. It’s all battle from here on out. Deep breaths everyone; it’s going to get intense.
Stray Thoughts
- Did anyone else think we were in for a musical/dance number at the beginning?
- Please tell me we see Jaq before the series ends.
- I miss Delle Seyah and her sarcasm and Aneela being Aneela.
- We learn so much about Fancy during this hour, and it’s AMAZING.
- D’av trying to set Johnny up is hilarious, and he is remarkably bad at being a wingman.
