36 Greatest LGBTQ+ Television Couples from the Past Ten Years
36 Greatest LGBTQ+ Television Couples from the Past Ten Years (continued):
28. Coop and Patience (All American)
Right out the gate The CW’s newest show, All American is proving beneficial for all its teen audience members, especially those who are African-American, gay, or both. With an openly gay character in Coop, they are showing the world that they won’t alter reality (its a show based off a true story) just to play it safe.
Coop’s relationship with Patience is still in the beginning stages, but there is still importance to it. There isn’t too much representation for young, gay females of color on television right now, which is why young teen girls are latching on to Coop and Patience.
29. Valencia and Beth (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)
For Valencia on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the big reveal that she now has a girlfriend is a non-issue. Which is exactly how LGBTQ+ relationships should be handled.
Valencia’s relationship with Beth may be in the early stages, but it is noteworthy because it is treated as any other relationship on the show. She is finally opening up and giving a relationship a try with the full love and support from her friends.
Beth is Valencia’s first relationship with a woman, but it is proving to be a strong point in her life. They both support each other whole-heartedly and lead with love. It’s an inspiration to us all, gay and straight.
In the final episodes of this series, it will be great to see Valencia and Beth continue to blossom in their relationship.
30. Omar and Ander (Elite)
The only foreign show on our list has a place here because of how well it tells the story of love among cultural, economic, and social differences. Elite gives us the story of Omar, a Muslim drug dealer from the poorer neighborhood, and Ander, an elite student with a drug habit.
All through Season 1, the two struggle with their relationship due to so many outside factors. This struggle gives a realistic look into how some LGBTQ+ youth live their lives in fear of being found out. Omar constantly has to hide who he is because of his family’s beliefs.
It ultimately tears the two apart, but there is hope for a rekindling. After all, it is their environments keeping them apart not their dislike of each other.
31. Kate Messner and Emaline (Everything Sucks)

One of Netflix’s most successful coming of age shows, Everything Sucks gives life to high school in the 90s. At the center of it all is Kate Messner and her journey to discover who she is and who she wants to be with.
Complete with a fantastic soundtrack, this show tackles the scary realm of love in high school, especially when that love is considered forbidden. Kate finds she likes females and that the Drama Club queen, Emaline, likes her.
While their relationship wasn’t allowed to be explored before the show was unceremoniously canceled, it’s clear from the already well-written story that, given the chance, it could have changed the world. In a way, these characters gave a voice to all the young adults of today who went on Kate’s journey during their high school years back in the 80s or 90s.
32. Waverly Earp and Nicole Haught (Wynonna Earp)

On a sci-fi show like Wynonna Earp, true love is a beautiful thing that should never be wasted. For Waverly and her best friend lover, Nicole their love is found in every universe.
These two badass women work hard to protect each other and the world. Sometimes they get in their own way, but ultimately they work hard together and make an unbreakable team.
To top it all off these two never grow tired of each other. No matter what, they always look at each other as if the other hung the moon.
33. Toni Topaz and Cheryl Blossom (Riverdale)

What do you get when you combine a girl from the streets and the high school Queen Bee? You get a beautiful relationship much like that of Toni and Cheryl on Riverdale.
The one great thing about their relationship is the level of guidance and support they lend each other. Whether it’s Cheryl encouraging Toni to take a more active role in the politics of the Serpents or Toni encouraging Cheryl to stand up to her mom and be who she was meant to be.
Both women have their own strengths and weaknesses which might be explored in outlandish ways, but at the heart of it, these events show fans that they can walk through fire together and come out the other side unscathed. Cheryl becoming Toni’s Serpent Queen is just the cherry red lipstick on top.
34. Hugh Culber and Paul Stamets (Star Trek Discovery)

The actor Wilson Cruz is no stranger to playing iconic gay roles on TV. After all, he was Enrique Vasquez on My So-Called Life back in the early 2000s. So, fans were delighted when he joined the show, Star Trek Discovery as Dr. Hugh Culber, a gay man in a committed relationship with fellow Starfleet officer: Lt Paul Stamets.
The two fight galactic battles together seamlessly able to combine their love and respect for one another into a working partnership on the USS Discovery. Though it seems that their relationship is over now, due to Hugh’s demise, nothing in space is ever permanent.
Fans are hopeful that Hugh will make a return on the show if only to see him reunited with the man he loves.
35. Piper Chapman and Alex Vause (Orange Is The New Black)

Set in a women’s prison, Orange Is The New Black sets high standards for telling unique female stories. None is better written and phenomenally acted than the story of Piper and Alex.
The two women met each other years before their stint in Litchfield when they were involved in a drug ring together. Eventually, they get caught by the law and Alex, spiteful about how Piper ended things, rats on Piper. Thus begins their time together in prison.
Through all the backstabbing, insanity, and general mayhem that goes on in prison these two find themselves even more strongly bonded to each other than ever before. They manage to make things work despite it all.
Hope is never lost on them; in fact, they eventually find their way to marriage. It just proves that nothing can stop love — not even snitching and prison sentences.
36. Mitch Pritchett and Cam Tucker (Modern Family)

These guys have been a living room staple since Modern Family first aired back in 2009. Through humorously over-the-top moments Mitch and Cam cemented themselves into television history.
While the two seem like polar opposites at times, a point that creates some contention between them quite a bit. In the end, they support and love one another through the “hate.” Their almost constant snide comments and eye-rolls at each other, mostly from Mitch, create many hilarious moments for the show.
They find a good balance between each other, their daughter, and their families to create realistic storytelling of gay domestic life. It isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth the struggle.

I can not take this list serious if lexa and Clarke (clexa from the 100) and Root and Shaw (Shoot from Person of interest) are not on it!!
Anne Lister and Ann Walker in Gentleman Jack. The best drama series for many a year.
Malec (Shadowhunters) deserves all the kudos they receive. They are some of the most fully developed LGBTQ characters in TV history, and their romance was epic.
