Tragedy strikes when a building burns down after the 118 responds to a call on 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 16, “Where There’s Smoke.”
The promo video shows the 118 being questioned amid an investigation into their possible mistakes. There, a timeline starts to take shape.
It seems like the 118 responded to a fire call, where Chimney eventually tells a young mother that it was safe to return home. Unfortunately, that building burned down later that same day.
The 9-1-1 promo shows angry residents expressing their frustrations and pain to the 118. They say things like, “We lost everything,” and “It’s all your fault,” while clinging to loved ones and cherished belongings that they could save.
Even the episode’s photos look heavy — the intense energy is palpable.
“Where There’s Smoke” cuts from those harrowing shots to Chimney, Hen, and Eddie being asked about the day. At one point, Chimney admits, “It was just a bad day.” Obviously, there’s a lot more to this day than what we’re seeing in the promotional materials. There are a lot of gaps to fill in beyond the investigation.
For example, there’s no sign of Buck, but the episode’s description reveals that he will offer his team support behind the scenes.
