36 Greatest LGBTQ+ Television Couples from the Past Ten Years
36 Greatest LGBTQ+ Television Couples from the Past Ten Years (continued):
19. Sara Lance and Ava Sharpe (Legends of Tomorrow)
When these two women first meet on Legends of Tomorrow, it’s definitely not love at first sight. In fact, it takes many interactions before Sara and Ava could even see eye to eye.
Once they are able to put aside their differences and actually open themselves up for love, Sara realizes that despite her past Ava cares about her.
Their love is super inspiring and the exact goodness our world needs right now. No matter what happens these two are there for each other and want nothing more than to make the other happy.
20. Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson (Glee)
In a comedic twist, this couple makes the list as one of the more light-hearted couples. Their story is told with love, humor, and very little drama. Glee is famous for being a champion for the underrepresented underdogs.
Kurt and Blaine are one of the greatest representations of that. To begin they were a simple high school romance, but over time, their relationship was allowed to grow along with them. That alone is the mark of what makes them great.
In a setting where most couples are simply parts of the whole, the setting being high school, Kurt and Blaine stand out as individuals who come together in common interest to care for and support one another.
21. Santana Lopez and Brittany Pierce (Glee)

Much like Kurt and Blaine, Santana and Brittany represent growth as a couple together and apart. By starting their relationship in high school these young ladies were able to evolve and grow in themselves and each other.
While Brittany prefers both males and females, Santana prefers only females. This doesn’t discourage either of them at all. There is no jealousy because first and foremost these two are best friends.
Their friendship at the core of their relationship is what sets them apart from everyone else. They show that underneath the love there needs to be mutual respect in order for anything to work.
22. Emily Fields and Alison DiLaurentis (Pretty Little Liars)

There is something about unrequited love changing and evolving into an actual relationship. Pretty Little Liars perfected that with Emily Fields.
From the very beginning, she stood on the sidelines of her group of friends secretly crushing on Alison DiLaurentis. Fans loved the idea of them together from the word go but had to wait until the final seasons to actually see the relationship come to fruition.
To watch Emily come into her own as a person and friend is a beautiful journey and one that is necessary in order for her and Alison to truly make a go of a relationship. By growing up first and then choosing to give each other a chance they ensured the lasting quality of their relationship.
23. Danny and Ethan (Teen Wolf)
For most of Danny’s time on Teen Wolf, he was unfortunately relegated to the role of sidekick. He is seen as an afterthought and nothing more than just the best friend.
However, when Ethan gets introduced as a gay alpha werewolf, Danny finally gets to hold his own as a character of note. The two together is a nice break from all the high stakes of the supernatural world. It isn’t often that Beacon Hills gets a chance to breathe and relax a bit.
However, any time Danny and Ethan are together it seems likely. Especially because Ethan believes that Danny is his home away from all his werewolf business. The reality of it all is Danny knows everything and chooses to care about Ethan anyways.
While Ethan moved on to date Danny’s best friend, it would’ve been nicer to see these to find a way back to each other in the end.
24. Kevin Walker and Scotty Wandell (Brothers & Sisters)
Television veterans Matthew Rhys and Luke MacFarlane came together on Brothers & Sisters to portray one of the only healthy Walker relationships. Kevin and Scotty came to fans as already established LGBTQ+ characters and proceeded to find each other.
Their relationship was far from easy. In fact, their cultural and social class differences proved to be too much for them at first. However, within a year they were able to open their hearts to the realization that both would do anything to make the other happy.
Even if it’s just changing a light bulb.
Over the five seasons of the show, these two grew in their careers and personal lives both as a unit and individually. They helped each other through their triumphs and their failures. Even when a cheating scandal seemed to spell the end for them, these husbands came together for their children which ultimately brought them back together as partners.
25. Patrick Murray and Richie Donado (Looking)

In the same fashion as Queer as Folk did with gay Pittsburgh, Looking looks to tell an accurate depiction of life as a gay man in San Francisco. Through the eyes of three protagonists who had vastly different views on gay culture, sex, and relationships the show manages to captivate the love and affection of many viewers.
One particular couple stood out among the crowd: Patrick and Richie. The two couldn’t have been more different when they met, but despite that their pairing makes absolute sense. They compliment each other really well and give a nuanced depiction of what its like to make compromises in a relationship when one of you is much more invested.
Even though they don’t stay together, the film created to close out the series left things open for interpretation. It was quite obvious that in their time apart Patrick had done all the necessary growing needed to finally be on equal footing emotionally with Richie. This leaves fans excited for them to explore the future together and see where it takes them.
26. Ruby and Sapphire (Steven Universe)

On one of the most critically acclaimed animated series, Steven Universe, there is bound to be wonderful representation for all walks of life, especially the LGBTQ+ community. So it comes as no surprise that recently the show decided to place two of their popular characters: Ruby and Sapphire in a relationship together.
This breaks ground for an animated series aimed at young adults. These two unique female characters become role models for young girls everywhere, not just LGBTQ+ youth. They are both warriors in their own right and consistently fight for the respect of others.
With Ruby at her side, Sapphire is able to fuse with her to make Garnet and be an even stronger entity; one that is forged through love. The two compliment each other very well with Ruby being the impulsive one and Sapphire being more level-headed.
27. Princess Bubblegum and Marceline (Adventure Time)

On the final episode of Adventure Time, two characters got their long-anticipated happily ever after. Fans who have grown with the show over the past decade were ecstatic to see Princess Bubblegum and Marceline finally give in to their feelings for one another and kiss.
While most of the series Bubblegum and Marceline, the Vampire Queen, seemed to be on opposites sides of a conflict, they managed to put that aside during a final battle and hold each other before kissing. It’s a conclusion that is a long time coming and to this day many fans are happy to see the bond between them realized.
Their future looks positive and full of hope now that they’ve stopped fighting it and chosen to work together. And they much like the entry before them have broken ground for future animated series/young adult shows to explore sexual orientations more fully.

Anne Lister and Ann Walker in Gentleman Jack. The best drama series for many a year.
Malec (Shadowhunters) deserves all the kudos they receive. They are some of the most fully developed LGBTQ characters in TV history, and their romance was epic.
