16 Top Moments from NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8
4. Sam Finds Michelle (Season 8 Episode 23)
This is not a good moment — we did not want Michelle to be dead, and we desperately did not want to have to see Sam break down, but this is still such a momentous thing that I can’t justify leaving off the list.
LL Cool J doesn’t get as many chances to play this version of Sam, the one that tugs at our heartstrings, and yet this moment, and the implications it has for the future, has us choking back tears.
3. Granger is Gone (Season 8 Episode 16)

Miguel Ferrer’s passing made the end of Owen Granger’s storyline a no-brainer, and yet there is something heartbreaking, and yet, incredibly hopeful in the way the show handled his departure, not by killing off the character, but by letting him go on and, hopefully, live.
The NCIS: LA team will grieve him, we will grieve him, but a part of him — and his legacy, lives on in the wonderful character he brought to life.
2. “If it’s about you, it’s about me and everyone else on this team.” (Season 8 Episode 24)

Callen’s words to Sam on NCIS: LA Season 8 Episode 24, “Unleashed” encapsulate not just what the show is all about, but Season 8 in general.
Before, they were fractured, teams within the team, but now the NCIS: LA crew is a family — and what affects one of them affects them all. Sam’s grief might be his own, and there are burdens no one can carry for him, but they can all be there to help him, despite that.
1. Kensi Proposes to Deeks (Season 8 Episode 2)
We’ve only been waiting two seasons (or seven) for these two to finally make this commitment, and despite several previous attempts by Deeks, when it finally does happen, it’s not just touching, but perfectly…well, Densi.
For two people who’ve been on a journey for a little over seven seasons, and for the fans who’ve enjoyed seeing them go from partners to friends to what is one of the best-written (if not the best) couples on TV, this is a fitting, not end, but beginning to another part of their journey.

I really enjoyed reading your list and I also enjoy reading your reviews. I do not agree with all of it but I definitely agree with the number one choice of Kensi proposing to Deeks . I am really looking forward to season 9 of this show.
The list was a good idea. I don’t know that I could pick 16 important moments, and while I agree with some of your choices, there are several that I think are too superficial: Kensi dancing (she could just as easily have been a trapeze artist or a professional volleyball player; she was simply undercover and the dancing was only relevant because of the setting), the checkers moment (again, nothing very significant or that hasn’t been said before), anything from any of the “mole” episodes (which were so poorly written they were laughable), and a few others. I would have had a tie for #1: the death of Michelle and the proposal. The proposal–while a long time coming and well-done–will probably cause very little change in the Kensi-Deeks relationship while the death of Michelle has the potential to cause enormous change in Sam’s character and his relationships with others. Basically, Kensi and Deeks have been “married” for several years; this will simply make it official, but since there’s never been any real tension or even a hint of tension in their relationship and their feelings for one another, it’s not much of a change (the drama in their relationship has always been caused by outside forces: injuries, kidnapping, new assignments, new bosses, their mothers). I would have DEFINITELY included that Callen and Anna have (to all appearances) gone “all in” in their relationship because this IS a huge change for his character and has the potential to make for some interesting stories–and is something that’s taken even longer than the Densi proposal to finally happen . The tension in the Callen-Anna relationship is from the characters, not outside forces or events, so I find it more interesting dramatically (and it’s similar in this regard to the Eric-Nell relationship in this way). I didn’t mean to ramble. Anyway, I look forward to your reviews for season 9.
