16 Top Moments from NCIS: Los Angeles Season 8
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 9 (yes, Season 9!) is almost here, and we honestly couldn’t be more excited. Because, yes, nine seasons in, this show is still good. In fact, this show might be — dare I say it — better than ever?
To get us ready for the new season, let’s count down the best moments from an emotional, exciting, and, at times, heartbreaking NCIS: LA Season 8, starting with…
16. Eric is Going to Therapy (Season 8 Episode 21)

Such a little thing, and yet, such a big moment. Eric’s revelation to Nell that he’s seeing Nate — as in seeing Nate for therapy — to talk about his feelings after killing a guy a few episodes before, is the kind of thing shows usually stay away from. But it rings true, not just to the situation, but to who Eric is, and it’s refreshing that NCIS: LA is willing to go there.
15. Callen and Anna sing (Season 8 Episode 17)
G Callen is many things, but a goofy guy is rarely one of those.
Even when he banters with Sam, that’s usually all we get, banter. But, love her or hate her, Anna certainly brings out the lightness as she and Callen embark on this road-trip-bad-guy-included.
Did you ever envision we’d get a scene like this with Callen? I certainly didn’t. And I really enjoyed it.
14. Hetty “Falls Asleep” as She’s Questioned (Season 8 Episode 13)

I used to love Hetty, and then I used to not like Hetty. At times I wanted to strangle her, and now I just love her again, so, so much, and this is the moment when I really remembered why she was one of my favorites in the first few seasons of this show.
How can you not love Hetty basically putting everything in the line for her people and outsmarting everyone while she’s at it?
13. Kensi Dances (Season 8 Episode 18)

Basically, this moment from NCIS: LA Season 8 Episode 22, “Golden Days,” was the moment every Daniela Ruah fan has been waiting for since she was cast and we all learned about her winning the Portuguese version of Dancing With the Stars. And let me tell you, girl not only looks smoking hot and can dance, but she puts so much heart into everything she does as Kensi that it’s impossible not to fall in love with her.
12. Deeks Tells Kensi about Whiting (Season 8 Episode 22)

Last season, NCIS: LA surprised me when they had Deeks being honest with Kensi. At this point, though, I just expect it, and when it happens, there’s happiness but also a feeling of vindication — especially because this is still so atypical on TV.
There is no added drama, no machismo. Deeks just trusts the woman he loves with something that has a chance to affect both of their lives, you know, like anyone in a real and mature relationship would.
11. Sam Ships Callen and Anna (Season 8 Episode 11)

Either Sam is worried Callen is going to end up alone or Sam just really, really likes Anna, because he is clearly shipping the two and having a grand old time making fun of his partner on NCIS: LA Season 8 Episode 11, “Tidings We Bring.”
Maybe, like us, Sam is just hoping Callen has finally found a safe port in a storm. Callen has been alone for far too long.

I really enjoyed reading your list and I also enjoy reading your reviews. I do not agree with all of it but I definitely agree with the number one choice of Kensi proposing to Deeks . I am really looking forward to season 9 of this show.
The list was a good idea. I don’t know that I could pick 16 important moments, and while I agree with some of your choices, there are several that I think are too superficial: Kensi dancing (she could just as easily have been a trapeze artist or a professional volleyball player; she was simply undercover and the dancing was only relevant because of the setting), the checkers moment (again, nothing very significant or that hasn’t been said before), anything from any of the “mole” episodes (which were so poorly written they were laughable), and a few others. I would have had a tie for #1: the death of Michelle and the proposal. The proposal–while a long time coming and well-done–will probably cause very little change in the Kensi-Deeks relationship while the death of Michelle has the potential to cause enormous change in Sam’s character and his relationships with others. Basically, Kensi and Deeks have been “married” for several years; this will simply make it official, but since there’s never been any real tension or even a hint of tension in their relationship and their feelings for one another, it’s not much of a change (the drama in their relationship has always been caused by outside forces: injuries, kidnapping, new assignments, new bosses, their mothers). I would have DEFINITELY included that Callen and Anna have (to all appearances) gone “all in” in their relationship because this IS a huge change for his character and has the potential to make for some interesting stories–and is something that’s taken even longer than the Densi proposal to finally happen . The tension in the Callen-Anna relationship is from the characters, not outside forces or events, so I find it more interesting dramatically (and it’s similar in this regard to the Eric-Nell relationship in this way). I didn’t mean to ramble. Anyway, I look forward to your reviews for season 9.
