15 Reasons We’ll Miss Sense8

Lists, Sense8

Before the Netflix decision to cancel Sense8 was official, many in the cast began tweeting fans asking for us to raise our voices for a renewal.

Fans did just that by starting social media trends, creating polls, writing open letters etc. However, sadly, the movement by fans and the actors to keep Sense8 in production wasn’t enough. On the heels of hearing that Netflix was canceling the show, there was an outcry of dismay and anger, because it meant so much to so many people.

We mourned with you all, regarding the loss of such an amazing show, but we know one of the best ways to cope is to grieve with people who share your pain. So Sense8 fans, enjoy this list of things we’ll miss from our favorite show.

1. The Characters

Sense8 Celebration

Each character on Sense8 was unique. All eight main characters and the many other side characters that were connected to the sensates, had authentic personalities, distinct beliefs, and groundbreaking romances.

This is a huge reason many fans are bereft because the show’s cancellation means we won’t be able to experience life with our favorite characters anymore.

2. The LGBTIQ Representation

Pride Parade

Media representation is so important for minority self-love and confidence. Sense8 shows the love, life, and struggles of a transgender woman, two gay men, a lesbian relationship, and the orgies shown in the show depict the sensate members as sexually queer.

Contrastingly, LGBTIQ representation seems to have gone down in this last year in movies and TV. Sense8 was a show that tried to combat against this media silencing.

3. The Captivating Stories

The interesting stories of Sense8 made the show so worthwhile.

Sense8 was such the perfect mixture of drama, romance, sci-fi, action, and mystery that every story entranced the viewer and enticingly invited them to enjoy this astounding world with its awe-inspiring characters. It’s hard to write a story about 8 characters and balance so many sub-genres without there being moments that drag with explanation, but Sense8 found a way to succeed in all areas.

4. The Female Character Representation

There is not one female character in Sense8 who has been reduced to a love interest or plot tool. The show’s writers gave their female characters nuance and treated them as their own, individual characters with their own backstories, fears, and hopes.

These women acted as genuine, strong characters that women in the 21st century can identify with.

5. The Fight Scenes

Sun fights off attackers

I cannot rave enough about how amazing Sense8’s fight scenes were. With Wolfgang’s hitman skills and Sun Bak’s martial arts skills, each fight was nothing short of amazing. The audience got both fight scenes with formal training and recognizable moves and fight scenes with street antics and brutal force.

6. The Exploration of Important Social Issues

Capheus and Kala experience anxiety

Sense8 tackled issues like governmental leader monopolization and greed, social and professional isolation of the LGBTIQ community, scientific and medical integrity, flaws in the justice system, etc. They never once shied away from broaching these topics.

Contrastingly, they ran headlong into exploring these issues and how they affect targeted communities, and made the audience experience and understand every emotion the character’s had to go through.
